Modern gardeners and lovers of summer cottages prefer to pay attention not only to growing vegetables and berries, but also to creating a cozy atmosphere. It is difficult to imagine what could decorate the suburban area more than beautiful ornamental trees and shrubs.

Shrubs will not only allow you to equip the site itself, but will also help in creating a hedge. Evergreen shrubs are very important for landscape design, which allow you to get an imperceptible and very logical transition between tall trees and other plants. When choosing any plant for the dacha, you must remember that it will require care, because only a well-groomed plant has an attractive appearance.

Actually, in this case, there are only two ways of choosing. The first way is to choose plants that are particularly easy to care for and get along well in your natural environment. The second way will be to choose the plant that meets exclusively your aesthetic preferences.

Ornamental trees are used to fill flower beds and decorate borders, and they can stand out perfectly in a single form. An interesting way of planting such plants will be the so-called alley planting, in which plants are planted in one or more rows at an equal distance from each other.

It should be noted that the overwhelming majority of such ornamental shrubs do not exceed five meters in height, and this value is taken as the maximum.

Which plants to choose?

Many gardeners choose shrubs that can bloom. It should be borne in mind what flowering is, no matter how bright and attractive it may seem, will last only a few months.

Shrubs, supplied with foliage of bright colors, seem to be a very successful decoration of their own garden. Such foliage can be either copper or golden. Many shrubs can even surpass flowers in their beauty. These shrubs include encianthus and fosergilla.

Dwarf and evergreen coniferous shrubs are perfect for decorating your garden. Such plants are very low in height. For coniferous and deciduous shrubs, proper planting and subsequent care is very important. Such plants should not be planted too close to each other, because their branches grow quite widely.

Such conifers include thorny and ordinary spruces, mountain and ordinary pines, as well as firs, junipers, thuja and larch trees.

Dwarf tree species

Compact species of many trees are also very popular for decorating summer cottages. For example, fluffy and drooping birch, American, powdery and intermediate mountain ash. For the same purpose, silver or Manchurian maple is also optimal.

You can decorate the site with dwarf varieties of fruit trees. In this case, you will receive not only decoration, but also delicious fruits. There are similar varieties of apple trees: berry and plum. Actually, in some cases, such trees may well replace sakura. Felt cherry has a very beautiful flowering, and its fruits will surely be remembered by you for their bright taste.

How to choose ornamental shrubs?

When choosing ornamental trees and shrubs, you should pay special attention to the conditions in which these plants should grow. For example, plants such as Japanese maple, oriental thuja and holly will not tolerate particularly severe frosts. Many gardeners are used to calling ornamental cherries and plums sakuras, but such varieties can also freeze in especially cold winters, so they will need special care in winter.

When purchasing plants, you should avoid those species that grow in countries with very warm climatic conditions: Italy, Moldova, Ukraine and many others. But those plants that are grown in Poland and the Baltic States will be an excellent solution for most regions of Russia.
