For lovers of the Jasmine aroma, living in areas not distinguished by the mild climate, the Almighty created the Rinkospermum plant, whose funny white flowers exude exactly the same aroma, but the plant can withstand even at minus 15 degrees, if it is protected from the cold wind by placing it in the south side of the house
Rod Rinkospermum
About three dozen species of evergreen shrubs, which can be called lianas for their climbing nature, represent on Earth the genus Rhyncospermum or Trachelospermum. We will look at low temperature tolerant species that grow up to 5 meters in height. Of course, Siberian frosts are beyond their ability, but they can withstand temperatures of minus 10-15 degrees, if you help the plants a little, choosing a place for them that is warmer and protected from cold winds.
Climbing shoots are covered with oval leathery leaves with a glossy surface. In early summer, white or creamy flowers bloom, exuding a jasmine scent. The funny shape of the flowers is similar to the propellers that we made in childhood, running a race, forcing the propeller blades to spin under the jets of oncoming air currents.
It is possible to grow a plant at home.
Resistant varieties
* Rinkospermum large (Rhyncospermum majus) is the most resistant species with dark green ovoid leaves, which acquire a bronze-red hue in cold weather. The plant's great resistance is reflected in the white flowers, which do not have as strong a scent as other relatives.
* Rinkospermum jasmine (Rhyncospermum jasminoides) - equivalent name
Jasmine trachelospermum (Trachelospermum jasminoides). The most common of the resistant species, but slightly inferior to Rinkospermum large in resistance to cold. Dark green long stems and dark green ovate-lanceolate glossy leaves provide a vivid backdrop for profusely blooming white flowers. Small inflorescences consist of star-shaped flattened flowers, exuding a pleasant jasmine aroma, for which Europeans call the plant "False Jasmine".
* Asian rinkospermum (Rhyncospermum asiaticum) - or
Asian trachelospermum (Trachelospermum asiaticum). The species is distinguished by white-cream flowers, which, completing flowering, become darker.
Growing
Rinkospermums need support, which the vine clings to, painting the landscape required by the gardener, whether it be open ground or indoors.
They prefer a place in the sun, but they can grow in partial shade, protected from the cold wind. The listed species are the most resistant to cold heat-loving plants. Of course, they demonstrate all their enviable qualities to the maximum in areas with a mild climate.
Lianas need fertile soil, soft, drained, with an acidic environment. For the winter, the vital area of the plant should be mulched with straw, peat or other materials at hand, especially in the early years of cultivation. For indoor lianas, soil is prepared from a mixture of peat and fertile soil, in a ratio (2: 1), adding complex fertilizer when planting. In spring and summer, once every 3-4 weeks, plants are fed with complex fertilizer, combining it with watering. Indoor plants are watered regularly, but without fanaticism. Outdoors, watering is required in dry weather.
Reproduction
The liana is propagated vegetatively, using cuttings or by dropping cuttings.
Cuttings are carried out in the summer, using semi-lignified cuttings from lateral shoots. For rooting, they are determined in a mixture of sand and peat, seated in personal cups after the formation of roots. The seedlings are kept until spring in an unheated room, planted at the end of April in open ground.
Layers are dropped in October, separated from the mother after a year, when they are well rooted.
Enemies
Plants are resistant to enemies, thanks to the milky juice running through their "veins". In the case of unsuitable soil (lime, or waterlogged due to lack of drainage), fungi can attack, causing chlorosis or root rot.
