Well, our long story about the cultivation of seemingly far from indoor plants in a home apartment garden comes to an end. And we want to complete it with tips, or rather even secrets that will be useful to every fan of indoor plant growing at all stages of the development of his beloved home garden
Secret 1. Lighting for the home garden is the most important point. Especially in winter, when there is a lack of sunlight. If the plants do not have enough light, they will stretch, weaken and wither. Juicy color, plentiful peduncle, healthy fruit cannot be achieved on such plants.
We are talking about those plants for which light is vital. To extend the daylight hours for plants, they should be supplemented with phytolamps with different colors of light from the lamp. Yes, its color also matters. It is necessary to use phytolamps, since their light is ideally close to the solar spectrum.
In order to correctly select the color of the phytolamp for each stage of plant development, we will tell you that red helps the plant grow faster, blue is important for biosynthesis and the formation of its strength and health, green penetrates even too thick crops and increases plant productivity. In moderate doses, some plants need ultraviolet (for general stimulation) and infrared (for warmth and warming) radiation. As a last resort, an expensive phytolamp can be replaced with a luminescent one.
Secret 2. The correct selection of soil for each plant. Why, for their individual species, in our narration, we dwelt in more detail on what the soil should be for certain plantings. The most correct thing is not to buy ready-made soil from a manufacturer unknown to you in the store and certainly not to carry it from the dacha, but to mix it yourself, so that you can definitely vouch for its ingredients.
You should also disinfect the prepared soil for the next planting by heating it in a microwave oven, oven, freezing it, spilling it with a manganese solution, that is, as you have adapted to do it at home. And you need to remember - with an unsuitable, bad, contaminated soil, you will not have to wait for a good harvest even in comfortable home conditions for plants.
Secret 3. The room should always be kept at an optimum humidity level. In winter, it is dry in city apartments, humidity is low. And in a private house with a flooded stove or fireplace will be the same story. Only cacti will be good with this air)). For all other plants, the average level of humidity is important, which, by the way, is also comfortable for humans.
The best solution in this case is to purchase an air humidifier, put it in the room where the plants grow, and use it to make the optimum humidity level for both plants and humans at 60-70 percent moisture in the air. If you have not yet stocked up with such an aggregate, moisten towels, a cloth with plenty of water and put them on the radiators, ventilate the rooms more often, spray the plants, place bowls of water near them, do not forget about watering.
Secret 4. We smoothly moved on to watering, which should also be correct and optimal for each type of plant. Tap water is not suitable for watering indoor plants. It needs to be defended or filtered. The soil in pots cannot be brought to dryness, but it is also impossible to fill them with water "up to the neck". You do not need to pour water from a watering can on the leaves themselves.
From time to time, water for irrigation needs to be acidified. Suitable for acidification are substances such as ascorbic, citric or oxalic acid, vinegars (apple, grape). It is also important to add hydrogel to the potting soil to maintain a normal moisture level in the pots. It gives and absorbs moisture into itself as much as the roots of the plant need, and its benefits in this process are undeniable.
Secret 5. Careful reading and consideration of planting technologies for each plant is very important. For example, almost all plants need drainage. Fine stone, gravel, expanded clay, broken clay pot are used as drainage. At the bottom of each planting container, you need to pour 2-3 cm of such a drainage layer. It is very important to observe the depth of sowing seeds in the ground, the optimal scheme for planting them.
In the next issue of Secrets of the Home Garden, we will give you other equally important tips for successfully growing plants in it.
