Perovsky's jaundice (lat. Erysimum perovskianum) - a representative of the genus Zheltushnik family Cruciferous, or Cabbage. In natural conditions, it grows on the territory of Afghanistan. Perovsky's jaundice is represented by annual herbaceous plants that form sprawling bushes no more than 40 cm in height during growth. Stems are straight, strongly branched at the base, crowned with small, linear, lanceolate foliage. The flowers, in turn, are medium-sized, bright yellow with a reddish undertone, with rounded petals, collected in umbrellas. Flowering is observed in early June - the second decade of July.
Currently, Perovsky's jaundice has a compact garden form f. compactum. It forms plants no more than 20 cm in height, which are suitable for decorating rocky gardens, including alpine slides and rockeries. Also, the form is used to decorate mixborders, ridges, flower beds and lawns. In the latter case, the plant is used to create bright attractive spots around the perimeter of the lawn and small islands.
Due to its low stature, Perovsky's jaundice and its dwarf form can be used as a pot culture. It can be safely planted in garden containers and even hanging pots that can transform the balcony, the entrance to the house and the terrace. It is not forbidden to combine adorable jaundice with other flower crops. The plant looks especially harmonious with sage, poppies, lavender, pansies, forget-me-nots, daisies, anemones and undersized calendula.
The subtleties of growing
Perovsky's jaundice is not too picky about growing conditions, however, active growth and abundant flowering can be achieved only in well-lit and heated areas, protected from the negative effects of cold northern winds. Soils are preferred moderately moist, permeable, loose, light, nutritious. Too heavy, highly acidic, saline and waterlogged soils for growing the crop in question are not suitable. Perovsky's jaundice is propagated by means of seeds. They are sown before winter or in early spring in open ground under a shelter, which provides optimal conditions for friendly and fast germination. Perovsky's jaundice is undemanding for top dressing, it is enough to carry out 1 top dressing per season when preparing the soil for sowing. When digging, organic and mineral fertilizers should be applied. The first must be rotten. Transfer of top dressing for the budding period is not prohibited. The representative of the genus also has a positive attitude towards weeding. In the absence of the possibility of regular weed control, mulching with natural material is recommended.
