Delphinium high (Latin Delphinium elatum) - flowering culture; a representative of the genus Delphinium, belonging to the large family of Buttercup. In nature, this species lives in forest glades and glades, as well as in the meadows of the Russian Federation and the countries of Northern Europe. In the latter case, the plant is found in the mountains. In culture, it is used actively, valued for its graceful flowers and vigor.

Characteristics of culture

Delphinium tall is represented by perennial herbaceous plants, which form tall bare stems in the process of growth, exceeding the mark of 80 cm. In culture, specimens up to 1, 5 m can be found. They are distinguished by special grace and unique beauty. The foliage of the species under consideration is complex, round in appearance, cordate at the base, glabrous or pubescent along the veins, divided into oblong rhombic and pointed lobes. It should be noted that foliage gives the plants a zest.

The flowers of the tall delphinium are small, blue, collected in sparse brushes. They boast the presence of linear bracts located at the base of the flower. The flowering culture is observed in mid-summer, usually in the first or second decade of July. Flowering lasts about a month, sometimes 3 weeks, which largely depends on climatic conditions and the quality of care.

This species is actively used by breeders to obtain new varieties and hybrids, which are very popular with gardeners and florists. By the way, the selection was not in vain, as a result of various actions a gigantic shape was obtained. It is hard to believe, but it allows you to get plants with stems, the height of which reaches 3-3, 5 m. Another distinctive feature of the shape is the pubescent stems, which, by the way, bear rich blue flowers. True, the bloom of the form is observed in late July - early August.

Growing features

Most often, the high delphinium, in fact, like other species of the genus, is grown by sowing seeds. This process is laborious, but even a novice gardener can do it. In addition to the seed method, the delphinium reproduces vegetatively - dividing the rhizome and cuttings. Seeds of the considered species are sown in the third decade of February. It is advisable to purchase seeds from trusted producers. Seeds collected in your own garden are also suitable for sowing, however, when storing them, it is important to follow a number of rules, otherwise they will quickly lose germination. It is recommended to store seeds in a cool room or on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.

Before sowing, seed dressing is required. They are wrapped in cheesecloth and immersed in a solution of potassium permanganate for 15-25 minutes. Also for these purposes fungicides will fit - chemical preparations used to fight fungi. After dressing, the seeds are thoroughly washed with cool water and soaked in a biostimulator, which are available on the market in large quantities. After the implementation of the above actions, the seeds are dried and sown in seedling boxes filled with a substrate consisting of garden soil, humus and peat, the introduction of washed river sand is encouraged.

The seeds do not need to be planted, it is enough to distribute them over the soil, sprinkle them with a little substrate and pour them with warm, settled water. A film is stretched over the box, it will create optimal conditions for germination. An important factor in successful germination is the room temperature, it should not be lower than 10C. Before the appearance of entrances, it is necessary to carefully monitor the state of the crops - they need to be watered abundantly and periodically ventilated.

When 2-3 true leaves appear at the entrance, dive into separate containers. In open ground, seedlings are planted in late May - early June. But first, young plants are hardened. The optimum distance between plants planted in the ground is 80 cm. The soil is treated before planting: they dig up and add compost and mineral complex fertilizer. Care is no different from any other species, except for a more serious attitude to the support, because the stalks of the delphinium reach 1.5 m high.
