A high fence seems to many summer residents to be a real stronghold of reliability, however, in addition to this and some other advantages, such fences are not without certain disadvantages, and, by the way, these disadvantages are not so few! Moreover, sometimes too high fences can violate the rights and legitimate interests of neighbors! So why, in some cases, does it really make sense to abandon a too high fence?
Insufficient air circulation
If a high fence is installed at a distance of up to three meters from the house, a real source of pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms can easily form in the country! And the reason for this will be the fact that the space located between the fence and the building will be very badly blown. In this case, the soil after the rains will dry out for too long, and a fungus can easily appear on the foundation of the house!
Very large shadow
The higher the fence is, the larger the shadow it casts will be. And, as you know, constant darkening has a detrimental effect on the productivity of the vast majority of crops, since the absence of the sun, combined with coolness, significantly complicates the full germination of seeds. If you are lucky, the sprouts in this case will begin to hatch much later than the due date, and if you are not at all lucky, then you will not be able to wait for the shoots at all!
And one more very important nuance - in areas located behind too high and deaf fences, the metabolism in the soil is almost always slowed down several times, which again can adversely affect the yield. And if the owner of the site is not worried about this, then his neighbors, who are faced with a similar problem created by his fence, can be worried about it up to a serious conflict!
Worsening relations with neighbors
Neighbors who have discovered a huge fence on the border with their house, in the event that this fence violates their legal rights and interests (and this is not so rare nowadays), can easily apply to the prosecutor's office, and in some cases the owner the fence will be obliged to dismantle the structure installed by him. If he refuses to do it on his own, then bailiffs will certainly visit him, who will demolish the installed fence with the help of equipment and specialists and, of course, will not forget to collect these costs from the culprit of the situation!
Violation of building rules and regulations
In accordance with current legislation, the height of the fence installed on the border with the neighboring site should not exceed one and a half meters. This rule is enshrined in SNiP on 02/30/97. Also, before proceeding with the construction of the fence, it will not be superfluous to contact the BTI to approve the land survey project - this will help to avoid possible conflicts with neighbors in the future. And those who plan to install a tall structure will not hurt to obtain written permission from their neighbors as well!
Build-up plating
Owners of structures with an unpainted picket may encounter this trouble - after snowfalls or rains, it will completely damp, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the weight of the cladding several times. And since wood, devoid of a reliable protective coating, will absorb moisture like a sponge, after a couple of years, a deaf fence will turn into a decrepit deformed structure of a very depressing look!
Hygiene problems
The material from which the fence is made is also of no small importance - a fence made of rusted iron or unpainted wood will begin to exude an unpleasant smell of rot after the first rain, as a result of which the air between the fence and the house will quickly become musty, and the entire space between them will be filled with dampness for a long time … And this, as you know, is the ideal conditions for the development of the fungus and for the reproduction of a great variety of moisture-loving insects!
Very large snowdrifts in winter
Too high a fence tends to distort the flows of surface winds, as a result of which, in winter, huge snowdrifts begin to accumulate under the fence, and the water becomes icy. And in order for the precipitation not to spoil the base of the structure, they will have to be removed every day, and this is very, very troublesome! So before you get a very high fence, it still does not hurt to think carefully about whether it is really worth it!
