Leaves are alternate, petiolate and basal, in shape they will be oblong-elliptical, and also stem-embracing and stem. The inflorescences of elecampane are in the form of baskets, they will be quite large, and their diameter reaches six to eight centimeters. Such inflorescences gather at the tops of the main stem and branches in rather loose brushes or shields. The flowers of this plant are colored in golden yellow tones, the inner flowers are tubular, and the marginal ones will be reed. The anthers are located at the very base and are endowed with long appendages. The wrappers of the baskets are multi-leaved, and they are also endowed with leaves protruding outward. The fruit of this plant is a brown prismatic achene, the length of which will be about three to five millimeters.
High elecampane bloom occurs in the period from July to August, and the ripening of the fruits occurs in August-September. Under natural conditions, this plant can be found on the territory of the European part of Russia, Belarus, Central Asia, Western Siberia and the Caucasus. For growth, elecampane tall prefers places along the shores of lakes and rivers, in wet meadows, in pine forests and among shrubs in deciduous forests.

Elecampane tall is endowed with quite valuable healing properties, which are widely used. For this purpose, the roots and rhizomes of this plant should be harvested, which is recommended to be done in late autumn, as well as after the dying off of the aboveground parts of the plant or in early spring, even before regrowth.
The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content of inulenin, inulin, resins, tannins, pseudoinulin, sitosterol isomer, triterpene saponins, bitter substances in the rhizomes of this plant, as well as the following acids: myristic, acetic, benzoic and palmitic. Also in the rhizomes of this plant is an essential oil that can dissolve in organic solvents. The high elecampane herb contains vitamin E and essential oil, while the leaves contain ascorbic, propionic, acetic and fumaric acids, as well as tannins.
Preparations based on this plant are endowed with a diuretic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, antimicrobial, astringent, antifungal, antiallergic and antispasmodic effect.
In the form of a decoction, this plant is used for chronic bronchitis as an expectorant, and it can also be used for tracheitis, pulmonary tuberculosis with sputum secretion, for bronchial asthma, influenza, inflammation, for duodenal ulcer and stomach ulcer, for enterocolitis, erosive gastritis and duodenitis.
As for traditional medicine, here this plant is used for intestinal atony, hemorrhoids, cholecystitis, liver diseases, jaundice, dropsy, fever, neuroses, benign and malignant tumors.
