Red orange (lat. Citrus sinensis) - fruit crop, which is a representative of the Rutovye family. The second name is bloody orange.
Description
Red orange is a very peculiar kind of orange. Such a bright and rich color of these fruits is due to the presence of anthocyanins in them - despite the fact that these pigments are not difficult to find in a huge number of a wide variety of fruits and flowers, they are not at all characteristic of citrus fruits. To a large extent, the degree of coloration of red oranges depends on the variety, as well as on lighting and temperature conditions. Basically, a bloody orange is nothing more than a natural mutation of a common orange, while the latter is a hybrid of a mandarin with a pomelo.
Red orange fruits are almost always slightly smaller than ordinary oranges. They are almost seedless and feature ribbed surfaces. It is noteworthy that visually a red orange is often very difficult to distinguish from an ordinary one - the juicy red pulp is often hidden under the usual orange peel. As for the taste of this pulp, it harmoniously combines shades of grapes, raspberries and strawberries, which are absolutely not typical for citrus fruits.
Red orange boasts three main varieties: Sanguinello (Spanish), Tarocco (of Italian origin) and Moro (the youngest variety). Red oranges are less acidic and much more juicy compared to other citrus fruits, moreover, unlike the latter, they do not cause serious allergic reactions.
