Anacyclus pyrethrum (Latin Anacyclus pyrethrum) - a common representative of the genus Anacyclus of the Asteraceae family. It is a herbaceous perennial, outwardly resembles a field chamomile. Often, the culture is called pharmacy saliva, medicinal anacyclus, compressed anacyclus, German and Spanish chamomile. In nature, this species is found only in the Mediterranean, less often in the Russian Federation. Nowadays it is actively cultivated in the countries of Europe and India.
Characteristics of culture
Anacyclus pyrethrum is represented by perennial plants not exceeding 40-50 cm in height. They have straight or ascending branchy stems endowed with sparse pubescence with short hairs. The foliage, in turn, is double pinnately dissected, linear, pointed at the tips, and does not exceed 1 cm in length.
Flowers are tubular and ligulate, in fact, like all members of the Compositae family. They are collected in small baskets, which are formed on short thickened pedicels, pubescent over the entire surface. Reed flowers are elliptical, white on the outside, reddish on the back; tubular flowers are lemon or yellow.
The fruits are represented by flat obovate achenes, not exceeding 0.3 cm in length. The flowering of the anacyclus pyrethrum is observed in mid - late summer. Closer to autumn, fruits are also formed, in which a large number of small seeds ripen, suitable for collection, sowing and obtaining new specimens of a wonderful and attractive plant that can decorate any garden, especially if it is made in a rustic style.
Usage
In horticulture, anacyclus pyrethrum is rarely used, although the culture can boast of high decorative properties. Despite the small flowers saturated in color, it pleases them with an abundance, of course, if the climate is favorable and the plant is provided with full care. The culture looks especially good in group compositions in rocky gardens and flower gardens, including an alpine hill. It is gracefully located between not too large stones of white color, and often half overlaps them with stems and merges together.
Anacyclus pyrethrum is most actively used in folk medicine. And, by the way, it is not for nothing that it is called a saliva, such a name accurately describes its properties. In India, the culture is used in the formulation of a phytopreparation designed to fight erectile dysfunction. In addition, it is famous for its androgenic and tonic properties, therefore it is very popular among the local population. Not so long ago, a phytopreparation appeared on the shelves of stores in Russia, but so far it has not received national recognition.
Traditional healers recommend anacyclus pyrethrum, or rather its roots, for toothache and as an anesthetic along with alcohol for painful sensations in the oral cavity. Unfortunately, the chemical composition of the plant has not been sufficiently studied, and there are still disputes between scientists about which component gives the plant an analgesic effect. Only one thing is known: in union with alcohol, it gives the most pronounced effect.
Also, the roots of anacyclus pyrethrum are recommended in the complex treatment of neuralgia, rheumatism and gastrointestinal tract disorders. In this case, the root is not insisted with alcohol, only boiling water is added (for 2 tablespoons of roots - 200 ml of boiling water) and kept for about half an hour, after which it is taken orally before meals, 50 ml. It is important to remember that anacyclus feverfew has contraindications, so before you start taking it, you should consult a specialist.
