Anacyclus clavatus - a bright representative of the small genus Anacyclus. Another name is clavate saliva. It received the second name for its ability to cause profuse salivation. Even such a seemingly unpleasant phenomenon is valuable in medicine, however, only in folk medicine. The homeland of the plant is considered to be Europe. In nature, the species is found in European countries, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia and even Turkey. Typical habitats are wet meadows, coastal areas and light forest areas.
Characteristics of culture
Anacyclus clavate is represented by annual herbaceous plants, reaching a height of 50-60 cm. They are characterized by numerous, simple or branched stems of a dark green color, forming lush rounded bushes during the growth process. It should be noted that the stems can be either erect or creeping. They, in turn, are crowned with drooping pinnately dissected foliage, divided into several segments.
The inflorescences are represented by single baskets, very similar to the usual garden chamomile. In diameter, they do not exceed 4-5 cm, but on one bush, as a rule, a huge number is formed - 30-40 pieces. Inflorescences sit on pubescent and elongated pedicels, clavate, which, in fact, follows from the name of the plant. The ligulate flowers are arranged in one row, they are inherent in a creamy white color. Center flowers, they are tubular, very small, yellow in color.
The flowering of the culture in question is long, begins in the second - third decade of July and ends in September - October, which depends on the climatic conditions of cultivation. Fruits are formed as the inflorescences bloom. Accordingly, in order to prolong the decorative properties of the plant, it is necessary to systematically remove withered flowers, then the plant will gain strength and continue to delight with an abundance of inflorescences and active growth.
Usage
In the garden, the clavate anacyclus is used to decorate rocky gardens and slopes. Also, the culture looks great in rockeries and alpine slides. Some gardeners and florists successfully cultivate the species in question in garden containers and containers, often in hanging baskets. In medicine, anacyclus clavate is used less often than its congener, pyrethrum anacyclus (or salivary drug), however, it also boasts powerful analgesic properties, since it has a similar chemical composition.
Cultivation of anacyclus clavate
It is recommended to plant anacyclus clavate in areas open to the sun and protected from cold squally winds. In the shade and lowlands, the culture feels defective, blooms poorly, develops slowly and often becomes the target of diseases. The soil, in turn, is desirable well-drained, sandy, moderately moist. The clavate anacyclus will not tolerate the commonwealth with waterlogged soil. The inclusion of rubble in the soil is encouraged, thus, it is possible to adjust the artificially created conditions to natural ones.
Anacyclus clavate is propagated by the seed method, but unlike the closest perennial counterparts, they are sown not in open ground, but in seedling boxes. Sowing is carried out in the third decade of March - the first decade of April. At an optimal temperature and humidity level, seedlings appear together in a week. Later, the seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place, leaving the distance between plants equal to 40-50 cm. It is impossible to plant a crop too often, because in the process it grows strongly, which can affect the growth activity and decorative properties.
