Anacyclus radiant (lat. Anacyclus radiatus) - flowering culture; a representative of the genus Anacyclus of the Asteraceae family. In nature, they are found in the central and western regions of the Mediterranean. A highly decorative plant, is actively used in gardening summer cottages and backyards. Combines well with other annuals.

Characteristics of culture

Radiant anacyclus is represented by annual or biennial herbaceous plants no more than 15 cm in height with numerous spreading, erect and simple stems of red-purple color. Leaves are dark green, rosette, pinnate, dissected, oblong, lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, up to 5-6 cm wide, divided into 6-14 pairs of narrow linear lobes.

Inflorescences are baskets, up to 5-6 cm in diameter. The central (disc) flowers are very small, numerous, yellow; marginal - ligulate, cream, white or yellowish, narrow, oval in outline. The radiant anacyclus blooms from July to September - October. The considered type is used for the design of rock gardens, rockeries, borders, rabatki and other flower beds.

Features of growing and care

Radiant anacyclus is most often used to create alpine slides. Plants thrive between stones, but the soil should be sandy, loose, moderately moist. The location is preferably sunny, a light openwork shade will not harm. The radiant anacyclus will not tolerate waterlogging, but if this happens, the plants begin to wither before flowering.

To prevent this from happening, it is important to make a good drainage mat before planting, due to which excess water will not linger, which means it will not allow the anacyclus to be destroyed. Crushed stone or gravel can be used as drainage, on top of which loose sandy soil is poured. It is recommended to plant plants taking into account the distance, because their shoots quickly grow and fill free areas.

Propagate anacyclus radiant by sowing seeds. Sowing is carried out in early spring in open ground in mid-May - early July or in autumn immediately after collecting seeds. Growing through seedlings is not prohibited. With spring sowing, seedlings appear in 2 weeks, of course, provided that they are regularly watered and the temperature is not lower than 15C. In the phase of two true leaves, the seedlings of the radiant anacyclus are transplanted to a permanent place.

Caring for the species in question does not present any difficulties. It consists of moderate watering as needed, loosening the soil, removing weeds, as well as fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizers. Plants are rarely affected by diseases and pests, therefore they do not need preventive treatments. In the southern regions, the radiant anacyclus is grown as a biennial; for the winter, such specimens need shelter from moisture. Otherwise, the culture is unpretentious. Its cultivation is subject even to a novice gardener.
