Anagallis large-flowered (lat. Anagallis grandiflora) - a representative of the genus Analallis of the Primroses family. Another name is Monelli. Under natural conditions, it grows in the northern regions of Africa and southern countries of Europe. The species is actively used in landscaping personal backyard plots. It has high decorative properties.
Characteristics of culture
Large-flowered analallis is represented by perennial dwarf plants, not exceeding 20 cm in height. In the middle lane, the culture is cultivated as an annual, since it cannot boast of high winter hardiness. In the process of growth, plants form compact bushes with numerous leafy shoots, on which blue or blue flowers flaunt.
A distinctive feature of the considered representative of the genus is the ability to open its flowers only during daylight hours and light weather. With proper care and a favorable climate, large-flowered anagallis pleases with abundant and rich flowering for a long time, usually up to September - October.
Today, the species is used to decorate rocky gardens, alpine hills, borders and other types of flower beds, suggesting unions of low-growing floral and ornamental plants. They are also used as ampelous plants, planting in hanging pots and pots. They are used to decorate gazebos, balconies and the porch of the house.
It should be noted that large-flowered anagallis, unlike its closest relatives, takes part in breeding. Today, on the garden market, you can find a number of varieties that are popular with gardeners and florists. Among them are: Blue Bird, Filipi, Sineglazka and Gentian Blue. They are very similar to each other and differ only in the shade of the flowers and the size of the foliage.
Features of cultivation
Large-flowered analallis, like other representatives of the genus, belongs to the category of light-loving. Therefore, it is preferable to plant plants in sunny areas. The culture does not like the shadow (even a rarefied one). On such sites, it develops more slowly and rarely opens its flowers. Soils for the successful cultivation of the species in question are desirable poorly fertile, neutral, light. Areas with dry, waterlogged, waterlogged and saline soils are not encouraged.
Large-flowered anagallis is propagated by the seed method, but only through seedlings. Sowing is carried out no later than mid-late April. As a rule, seedlings appear together in 1-1, 5 weeks. With the appearance of 2-3 true leaves on young seedlings, the seedlings dive in separate containers, best of all in peat pots. In open ground, the matured seedlings are transplanted at the beginning of June, while the first flowers appear by the end of the third decade of June.
If you sow seeds of large-flowered anagallis in open ground, you need to make sure that the seedlings do not freeze with possible night frosts. With this method of cultivation, the first flowers are formed not earlier than the second decade of July. Also, the culture is propagated by cuttings. Cuttings are cut in the second half of May, but not later. The planting material is treated with growth stimulants and planted in prepared soil, where it successfully takes root.
Care
To achieve abundant flowering and active growth, it is very important to provide the culture with proper care, which consists of classic procedures. We are talking about watering, weeding and feeding. Watering, in turn, should be abundant, but without waterlogging. Water volumes should be increased during periods of heat and solar activity. Weeding is carried out after planting until the green mass is set, later they are not required. Top dressing is required only if the soil is significantly depleted.
