St. John's wort large is one of the plants of the family called St. John's wort, in Latin the name of this plant will sound like this: Hypericum ascyron L. As for the name of the family of St. John's wort itself, in Latin it will be like this: Hypericaceae Juss.

Description of St. John's wort

St. John's wort is a perennial herb. The stem of this plant is straight, glabrous, smooth and tetrahedral. Sometimes such a stem can be slightly branched in the upper part, and its height will be about fifty to one hundred and twenty centimeters. The leaves of this plant will be either oblong or oblong-ovate in shape, they are opposite, pointed, whole-edged, stalk-embracing, and from the lower surface they will be gray. The flowers of St. John's wort are rather large, they can be either single, or three to five pieces at the ends of the stem or branches. The petals will also be either obovate or oblong-ovate. The stamens are quite numerous, they grow together in five bundles, the ovary is brown in color, it is five-celled and ovoid. The fruit of this plant is a brown box in color, which will be oblong-ovoid. The seeds will be oblong, they are rather small in size, brown, cellular and endowed with a membranous wing located on one side.

The flowering of St. John's wort falls on the period from June to July. It is noteworthy that this plant is decorative. Under natural conditions, the plant is found on the territory of Western Siberia in all regions, with the exception of only Verkhnetobolsk, as well as in the Daursky and Angara-Sayan regions of Eastern Siberia, in Primorye and the Amur region of the Far East. As for the general distribution of this plant, it is found on the Korea Peninsula, in Northeast China, Japan, Canada and the United States.

Description of the medicinal properties of St. John's wort

St. John's wort is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. Grass includes flowers, leaves and stems. The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content in the plant of hyperin, essential oil, tannins, leukocyanidins, quercetin, quercitrin, as well as phenol carboxylic acids and their derivatives: caffeic and chlorogenic acids.

As for traditional medicine, the infusion and decoction of St. John's wort is widely used here. Such funds are used for dizziness, headache, palpitations, pancreatitis and gastritis. Also, these funds can be used as a diuretic and anticonvulsant for eclampsia. The roots strengthen the stomach and are a valuable anti-fever remedy. The seeds of this plant are used for scrofula, malaria, abscesses and also as a means of regulating the menstrual cycle, as a diuretic and anti-febrile agent. Plants are used to prepare baths from the herb, which are taken for rheumatism.

A decoction prepared on the basis of the herb of this plant is recommended to drink with bloody vomiting, hemoptysis, uterine bleeding, hepatitis and nosebleeds. Outwardly, such a decoction can be used in the form of rubbing and lotions, for burns, eczema, purulent wounds and external traumatic bleeding. Such a decoction is prepared from an arbitrary amount of grass or St. John's wort juice.

For headaches and dizziness, it is recommended to use the following remedy: for its preparation, take one tablespoon of dry crushed herbs per one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture is infused for two hours, and then filtered. This remedy is taken three times a day before the start of a meal, two tablespoons.
