An oil for all occasions?
Many people believe that the squeak of doors can be easily removed with the help of oil, and immediately go to the kitchen for a bottle of vegetable oil. However, it will be advisable to use oil only if the reason for the squeak is due to the state of the door hinges - in all other cases, this method may not help. And, importantly, it is not vegetable oil that should be used for lubrication, but machine oil - it will not be difficult to purchase it in absolutely any car shop! The fact is that in the composition of engine oil there are substances that not only contribute to the rapid cleaning of door hinges, but also prevent their subsequent clogging, while no vegetable oil can boast of the same effective composition!
How to deal with a squeak?
In the absence of lubrication, that is, if the door hinges were not properly lubricated after installing the door, it will be enough to get a special lubricant solution and thoroughly lubricate all the hinges with it. The main thing is to make sure that there is no solid oil in the composition of this solution - the fact is that after some time its particles become abrasive, and this opportunity can also easily cause a squeak.
The absence of balls is also not so scary - if there are no special bearings in the hinge mechanism, the door leaf is removed, after which the hinges are disassembled and supplemented with the necessary details.
But with high humidity, things are already much more complicated. Doors that are constantly exposed to moisture gradually begin to swell, and the creak in this case will be triggered by the friction of the door leaf on the door frame. In this situation, in most cases, the situation can be saved only by the complete dismantling of the old door together with the frame and the installation of a new one. In addition, in order to avoid a repetition of the situation in the future, it will not hurt to get rid of the moisture source in advance. However, even if the doors are incorrectly installed, especially if the hinges are incorrectly welded, the door is almost always required to be reinstalled.
As for the unreliable fastening of the hinges, then replacing the fastening bolts usually helps. If the matter is in the malfunction of some other elements, then it does not hurt to check for suitability every single detail of the installed door and promptly replace them as needed with new ones. And in a situation with plating, the door can sometimes begin to creak due to the contact of the plating material with the door frame - to get rid of the squeak, you will have to replace the plating.
How can the hinges be lubricated?
To get rid of the hated squeak, door hinges can be lubricated not only with machine oil, but also with petroleum jelly, after which the door begins to open and close continuously until the creaking sounds disappear completely - as a rule, this takes very little time. And if the creak of the doors is due to the appearance of rust on the hinges, then molten paraffin will help. If there is neither machine oil, nor petroleum jelly, nor molten paraffin at hand, the most ordinary soap will do - either the hinge rods or the rubbing sides of the doors are lubricated with it, or both at once.
