Checking the expiration date of the seeds

Parsley is a biennial plant. Therefore, if you planned to collect your own seeds, you will not be able to do this in the first year of the plant's life. It is also necessary to remember that seeds rarely germinate well for more than two years. If the purchased bag of seeds is more than three years old, you can no longer count on the harvest.

When is it necessary to germinate seeds?

In the spring months, parsley seeds need special pre-sowing preparation. 3-4 days before planting in the soil, the seed must be soaked in warm water so that the seeds germinate. In this case, you must not forget to change the water in the container daily. But for winter crops, such a preliminary procedure is not necessary.

Where to arrange parsley beds?

Parsley grows best on loamy and sandy loam soils, where the surface is not covered with a crust. It should be borne in mind that this green belongs to moisture-loving crops. From a lack of moisture, the root crop stops its growth and becomes rough, tough. Also, for good development, the site must be well lit. In a shaded place, the leaves begin to ache and lose their presentation.

Parsley beds work well where cucumbers, tomatoes, onions or cabbage were grown before. If the site has not been fertilized since autumn, ammonium nitrate is added during the spring loosening of the land.

Sowing parsley seeds

Parsley has very small seeds. Before sowing, they are mixed with sand (5 parts). To calculate the required number of seeds, take into account that for 10 square meters. you need about 5 g of seed. You don't need to take more, because when crops thicken, greens are more often affected by diseases.

Sprouted seeds are planted in moist soil. The seeds are planted to a depth of no more than 1.5 cm. It is important that the seeds have close contact with the soil, therefore, after filling the grooves with earth, they must be rolled.

Caring for parsley beds

During the growing season, the soil in the beds is regularly loosened. When the leaf rosette begins to grow, in order to obtain an enviable harvest of greens, parsley is fed with ammonium nitrate. The green mass is responsive to nitrogen fertilizers. For root varieties, the choice is made in favor of phosphorus-potassium dressings.

Parsley care also includes watering. Under favorable weather conditions, it is enough to water 2 times per season. Planting requires regular weeding, weed control, which can shade the crop. They also make sure that the parsley is spacious in the beds, and thin out with strong thickening.

Green container on your beds and windowsills

Parsley is beneficial in that it is possible to harvest from the plantation throughout the summer season. To do this, only the outer leaves are cut from the rosettes. And a couple of inner young leaves are left to grow on the root crop further.

Root crops are harvested from the beds at the end of September, while stable frosts have not yet arrived. If the winters in the region are characterized by good snow cover, you can leave the parsley roots to winter in the garden bed. Then next year you can expect fresh greens from them in earlier spring periods.

Root crops are stored in sand boxes in winter. If you leave on them a few centimeters of stalks from the cut greens, then you can use them for forcing greens indoors throughout the winter.
