A wall-mounted greenhouse is a great economy option for growing tomatoes. With less materials, you can build a full-fledged warm cozy house for growing vegetables. However, building a greenhouse is only half the battle. The agricultural technology of tomatoes in such shelters also has its own characteristics
So that the composition of the soil does not delay the timing of fruiting
As a rule, we expect to get an earlier and richer harvest of vegetables in the greenhouse. But sometimes this expectation turns into disappointment, since tomatoes are delayed in fruiting. To prevent this from happening, it is important to remember that tomatoes do not thrive on soils that contain a large amount of nitrogen. Therefore, the composition of the earthen mixture must be approached extremely responsibly.
A good composition for tomatoes in a wall greenhouse will be a mixture in equal parts of humus and turf. Before planting seedlings, add 100 g of wood ash as fertilizer per 1 square meter of area. Ash can also be replaced with superphosphate and potassium sulfate.
Tomatoes need support
Tomato seedlings are most ergonomically planted in a checkerboard pattern. To provide a sufficient feeding area, the distance between the plants according to this scheme is 40 x 40 cm. The planting technique also matters. So, sometimes, the seedlings are too elongated by the time they are moved to the greenhouse to a permanent place. It is recommended to place such specimens obliquely in the ground.
Tomatoes are among the plants that need a garter. Therefore, in the greenhouse, it is necessary to stretch the wire horizontally along the future tomato beds. Seedlings are tied up vertically. The lower end of the cord or twine is attached with a loose knot to the plant stem under the lowest leaf. After that, the stem is carefully wrapped around so that the cord supports the seedlings in the desired position, but is not an obstacle to growth. With the second free end, the cord is tied to the previously stretched wire. As an option, the growing seedlings are tied up to the pegs driven in next to the plants.
The miracles of pinching tomatoes
Gone are the days when tomatoes were formed exclusively into one stem. If a new product has appeared in your greenhouse, be sure to ask what kind of variety the variety belongs to. This is of great importance for the choice of technology for forming a bush. So, high-stemmed plants form both one and two, and even three stems. By the way, stepsons removed from the mother bush can be immediately rooted and viable fruit-bearing plants can be obtained from them.
But semi-dwarf and standard varieties do not need pinching. In this regard, the gardener's care for tomatoes is simplified by the fact that he does not waste his time removing side shoots.
When a bush is formed into one stem, all lateral shoots that form in the axils of the leaves, at their very base, are mercilessly removed. It is important not to miss the moment when the stepsons reach 3-4 cm in length - this is the optimal time to remove them from the bush. Care must be taken not to miss the lateral shoots that appear directly under the brushes during pinching. It can cause the plant to shed flowers and already formed ovaries.
When a tomato bush is formed into two stems, the second one that appears next to the first brush is left. It will be the second strongest in development. Formation in three stems is also performed according to this rule - you need to leave the strongest shoot. It will be the one that is closer to the second stem. On these additional shoots of the bush, as on the main one, the lateral stepsons are also promptly removed.
The tops of the plant should also be shortened - pinched at a height of 4-5 brushes. At the same time, at least 2 sheets are left above the upper brush. It is also important not to overdo it. In this case, the following law works: the shorter the pinching, the earlier it will be possible to harvest, but it will be more scarce.
