In the garden, shredders are essential for grains, herbs and twigs. Such devices help to recycle vegetable-type summer cottage waste. Most summer residents prefer to make such structures on their own. With basic knowledge and some skills, this is quite easy to do. In any suburban area, there is always a huge amount of cut grass, branches, tops and other unnecessary elements

Some gardeners collect them for subsequent burning, others put them in a compost pit, and still others use a shredder to produce raw materials to obtain fertilizing organics for garden crops. The addition of the obtained chips to the soil ensures the improvement of its structure. There is also the possibility of obtaining boiler fuel or mulching material. Therefore, gardeners buy in specialized stores or make their own garden shredders.

During the work process on the shredder, it is necessary to create additional protection for the eyes and hands. This is especially important in the case when solid plant waste is required to grind. Therefore, the summer resident must use leather gloves and glasses. This will protect yourself from injury.

What are garden shredders?

The construction of the garden shredder includes a cutting mechanism, a hopper for loading, a drive and a frame with the presence of a sheathing. Some devices also include a hopper for crushed organic components in their structure. A sieve and a special pusher serve as auxiliary devices. Thus, you can get a certain texture of chips. The type of drive and cutting system in such devices can be varied.

Roller drive systems are ideal for shredding branches and bushes. Thin branches are best chopped with a hammer garden shredder.

Milling structures can handle even the toughest raw materials. For thick and powerful branches, attachments with a rotating turbine are suitable as chopping devices. There is also a universal mechanism - a knife. Grass and tops can simply be treated with a conventional trimmer.

Engines in such devices are divided into two types - electric and gasoline. When making a garden shredder, you yourself need to use the engine that was previously in the walk-behind tractor. You can also take any motor from old household appliances. It is important that the motor power is more than 1.1 kW. If unnecessary equipment is not present, then there is the possibility of buying an engine. But this method is not very beneficial in the sense that then it is better to purchase the entire garden shredder.

Some types of shredders can only process soft and weak raw materials. They are often used to create animal feed. Sometimes such systems do not have a drive at all, that is, they act exclusively on mechanical stress.

When making a garden shredder, you can use sharpened knives taken from old saws. These knives must have their teeth turned. The step between them is about five millimeters. Shredders should also have handles, moreover, long enough to facilitate the efforts of the summer resident.

Hammer grinder

The design of the hammer grinder allows high-quality crushing of shrub stems, grains, straw and tree branches. Several circular saws serve as the cutting component of the device. Fifteen to thirty disc-type saws must be fastened to the shaft.

Between these saws, it is required to install special metal spacers with a fine structure. Washers are perfect for these purposes. Also, spacers can be made of plastic material. The package itself must be clamped with nuts. The drive here is a not very powerful walk-behind tractor. Bearings and other parts can be taken from a VAZ car. The frame must be installed high enough, then the crushed material will need to be removed much less often.

Twin Roll Shredder

This device effectively handles branch processing. It can be used to produce wood chips for heating with a boiler. There are three or four knives on one shaft. They are secured by bolting. The shafts are mounted parallel to each other. The bearings form free rotation.
