Kolnik (Latin Phyteuma) - a flowering plant; a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Bellflower family. The genus includes 30 species, most of them in natural conditions are common on the territory of European countries, some species are found in the Russian Federation (in regions with a temperate climate).
Characteristics of culture
The kolnik is represented by perennial and annual herbaceous plants equipped with large branched rhizomes and erect stems. The stems, in turn, are topped with jagged or whole foliage, most often green in color. The flowers are generally small, white, purple, yellow or blue, each bearing 5 petals, clustered in brushes or capitate inflorescences. The fruits are capsules, they have an oblong shape, they bear a huge amount of shiny seeds.
Common types
Spikelet spikelet (Latin Phyteuma spicatum) occurs naturally in Europe, most often in deciduous forests. It has a straight, furrowed stem, topped with long-petiolate, cordate, acute basal foliage and sessile, lanceolate, deflected upper foliage. The flowers are yellow or white, collected in lush spike-shaped inflorescences.
Rounded kolnik (Latin Phyteuma orbiculare) - a representative of the Russian flora. It is found in forests and mountains. Endowed with a straight stem no more than half a meter in height, bearing petiole, lanceolate basal foliage and sessile ovoid or lanceolate stem foliage. The flowers at the stem are rounded dark blue in color, collected in globular inflorescences.
Colnik drop-shaped (Latin Phyteuma betonicifolium) - a native of mountains and mountain meadows. In nature, it is found mainly in the Alps. It is represented by perennial plants no more than half a meter high. It is characterized by upper toothed, elongated leaves and basal oval or lanceolate. The flowers at the knot have a drop-leaf purple color, collected in lush inflorescences.
Wagner's kolnik (Latin Phyteuma vagneri), like the previous species, prefers mountainous areas, including meadows. Most often, in its natural environment, it can be found in the Carpathians. This species cannot boast of high growth, it does not exceed 30-35 cm. The foliage of the culture under consideration is oval or heart-shaped, blunt-pointed, toothed along the edge. The flowers are purple, small.
Crested crested (Latin Phyteuma comosum) also applies to mountain species. Most often found in the Alps (in the southern part). Stunted view. It does not exceed 15 cm in height. It has straight stems, which bear a gray-green petioled foliage of a rounded shape. The flowers of this species are purple, collected in spherical inflorescences with a wrapper.
Growing features
Most of the representatives of the genus are not too whimsical to living conditions, but some species, for example, crested crested crested, need an open sunny area with loose, moderately nutritious and moist soil with the inclusion of coarse-grained river sand. Rocky gardens will not interfere with the plant. Moreover, almost all types are suitable for creating and decorating an alpine slide.
It is not worth planting kolniki on soils with heavy clayey, swampy or saline soil, they will not tolerate community with a dense shade, closely lying groundwater and lowlands with stagnant precipitation. Be careful with the windy sides.
