Brovallia considered part of a plant family called nightshade. In total, six species of this plant are known, however, only beautiful brovallia is grown at home. This plant has become quite widespread in Central and South America, and in Europe, brovallia originated from Colombia.

In order for the plant to grow, you will need to regularly pinch the soft stems of the brovallia. This plant is most often grown in pots, but brovallia can also be grown on the balcony.

Description of the plant

A particularly valuable plant of brovallia is made by its flowering. If all standards of care are followed, this plant will delight with delightful flowers painted in blue-purple tones. However, there are also white, blue, and even lilac brovallia flowers. The flowering of this plant is also distinguished by a very long period: the plant can bloom even for one and a half years. It is also important to remember that the plant blooms in winter, however, if the lighting is insufficient, then the flowering will not be so abundant.

After flowering stops, the plant already becomes old and it will not bloom again. It should be remembered that usually the life of a plant does not exceed two years.

Brovallia care

Brovallia is considered a very light-loving plant, but at the same time it is not able to withstand direct exposure to direct sunlight. The plant will thrive on eastern windows, as well as on balconies that are quite darkened.

As for the temperature regime, despite all its love for heat, this plant tolerates heat very poorly. Therefore, brovallia will need a moderate temperature: in the spring and summer period of time, the temperature regime should be at least twenty degrees, and in winter, if the flowering continues, the temperature should remain at room temperature. However, as a young plant, it will be best to provide fairly cool temperatures between ten and fifteen degrees Celsius, which will slightly slow down the plant's abundant growth.

Brovallia will need high air humidity, however, the plant can get used to home conditions quite well. Spraying the plant should be done from time to time.

In the summer, watering should be very plentiful, but in the winter, watering is recommended to be reduced. The substrate should not be waterlogged in any case, otherwise rotting of the plant roots may occur.

As for fertilizers, their excessive surplus can adversely affect the plant, especially this circumstance concerns those fertilizers in which there is an increased nitrogen content. From the beginning of spring until the end of flowering, it will be necessary to apply fertilizers intended for flowering indoor plants. It is recommended to carry out these measures once every two weeks, while the concentration will be required about three times less than what is indicated in the instructions.

As for the soil, brovallia will need a loose soil that will be permeable and breathable. You can prepare such a mixture as follows: take in equal proportions humus, sod and leafy soil, as well as sand.

A plant transplant is not required, despite the fact that brovallia grows rather quickly. After flowering is over, the plant should be replaced with a new one that was grown by means of seeds or cuttings.
