Luxurious Isolepis

Isolepis is very widespread in warm temperate and tropical regions, and in Australia and Africa in particular. Outwardly, it is somewhat reminiscent of juicy grass. This wonderful plant is great for planting along the banks of water bodies, and the miniature varieties of isolepis, which thrive in the water, will be wonderful decor for aquariums. You can grow this handsome man indoors as a potted plant, however, in this situation, he needs to create optimal conditions, maintaining the humidity of the air and soil at a fairly high level

Getting to know the plant

Relatively recently, the genus Isolepis was isolated from the genus Kamysh. Isolepis can be both a perennial and an annual, as well as a rhizome plant or not. The stalks of this soddy herbaceous beauty are cylindrical and rather thin.

The filamentous basal leaves of isolepis are both rudimentary and higher in height than the stems. Inflorescences of this plant are mainly apical, sometimes spikelet, capitate or pseudo-lateral. They are formed by one to three spikelets (maximum fifteen) and are equipped with one or two bracts directed upwards. Each spikelet consists of scales arranged spirally around the flowers. The number of such scales can vary from eight to twenty-five.

The tiny bisexual flowers of the islepis are devoid of perianths and are cream-colored. As a rule, they contain from one to three stamens and are endowed with columns slightly thickened at the bases. Such flowers are formed at the tips of the shoots of this wonderful plant.

Isolepis fruits are triangular or biconvex achenes, which can be either longitudinally ribbed or triangular.

How to grow

For the cultivation of isolepis in the coastal zone, waterlogged soils will be required. When cultivating it in aquariums, hard soil is the best solution. And when growing this plant in pots, preference should be given to clay containers and a fertile clay mixture. Isolepis will need quite intense lighting, but direct sunlight will not be the most suitable option.

It is very important to ensure that the soil is always moist when growing isolepis. Water this plant throughout the year, two to three times a week. Watering should be fairly abundant. This feature of isolepis makes it inconvenient to grow in hanging baskets. But this moisture-loving handsome man should be sprayed daily, and when hot weather is established, sometimes even twice a day.

Every three weeks, luxurious Isolepis should be fed with quality fertilizers, which should be diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions. A similar feeding regime is adhered to all year round if isolepis is grown indoors at room temperature.

In winter, this bizarre green pet is able to withstand rather low temperatures - up to eight degrees Celsius, but the most optimal temperature for him is still around 13 degrees. If the temperature does not drop to a minimum, then isolepis will rise continuously. But if the thermometer rises to twenty-four degrees and above, the plant will need an increase in air humidity.

It is recommended to transplant Isolepis every six months. Moreover, it is best to transplant the plant not into a common large pot, but into two separate pots, after dividing the bush in half. With the active growth of this plant, its stems with roots are divided into two parts. And so that they can better take root in the new soil, pots with transplanted isolepis should be left without watering in the shade for a couple of days.

Isolepis is considered the most attractive at a relatively young age, since it gradually grows and may take on a not entirely neat appearance.
