A few words about the disease

On apricot leaves, the first signs of bacterial spotting appear in the form of dark, rounded specks saturated with moisture. As a rule, the diameter of such spots is less than three millimeters; they usually do not grow to large sizes.

Some time later, unpleasant spots acquire an angular shape, and the surfaces of the areas attacked by the disease look as if they are saturated with fat. At the same time, their central parts are characterized by translucency and are equipped with clearly defined black edges, which can be seen with the naked eye. The centers of the infected areas dry out and crack rather quickly, as a result of which a yellow edging appears around the affected areas.

Most often, you can encounter damage in young leaves. However, old leaves are not spared from the disease. With high humidity (dew, fog and heavy rain), the leaves often lack the spots characteristic of bacterial spotting, but all the leaves have an extremely painful appearance.

On fruits, the harmful attack first manifests itself in the form of black raised small specks surrounded by white oily edges. Such areas gradually increase to four to five millimeters in diameter and turn brown. Moreover, they are almost always distinguished by small scales and slight elevation. And a little less often, depressions in the center and raised edges can form on the affected areas.

The causative agent of this scourge is a pathogen called Xanthomonas versicatoria, which can persist on seeds, weeds, self-sown plants and vegetation debris. And the lightning-fast spread of infection is largely facilitated by heavy rains and sprinkler irrigation. And if the first factor cannot be influenced in any way, then the second is quite possible to exclude.

Apricot becomes infected with bacterial mottling mainly through wounds, which are often caused by high-pressure spraying and insects carried by the wind along with raindrops and grains of sand. Favorable for the development of the ill-fated misfortune will be the combination of heavy rains or sprinkling irrigation with warm weather, in which the thermometer is in the range from twenty-four to thirty degrees.

To avoid a harmful ailment at the initial stage of apricot development, it is extremely important to try to use infection-free seeds and seedlings.

Quite effective preventive measures will be the inclusion of crops that are not hosts for infection in the crop rotation, as well as active suppression of self-sown and weed vegetation. And the average level of protection of planted trees can be provided with the help of copper sulfate, which is well known to all gardeners.

If signs of bacterial spotting have been found on apricot trees, overhead irrigation should be avoided in every possible way.

It is also possible to reduce the harmfulness of bacterial spotting by improving sanitary conditions in gardens. For this purpose, all plant residues should be plowed into the soil immediately after the end of the harvest, and the equipment used in the infected areas should be thoroughly disinfected.
