For the vertical design of the summer cottage, the evergreen curly Bignonia is perfect. True, in temperate climates, it will have to be insulated for the winter in order to protect it from frost. The abundant flowering of catchy bells will more than pay off your efforts and care
What's in your name
It is not often that librarians who bring knowledge and enlightenment to people are honored with the eternal memory of Mankind. But there are exceptions. Curly Bignonia or Bignonia bears the name of the librarian-abbot Bignon, who served faithfully to the French "Sun King", as they called the most "durable" king of the 17th century in Europe, Louis XIV. The living English queen has to serve Great Britain for another 10 years in order for her long-term "service" to be equal to that of a Frenchman who occupied the royal chair for 72 years.
The Bignonium family
Not only plants of the genus Bignonia are called Bignonia, but also several plants belonging to other genera of the family. All of them are climbing representatives of the flora, distinguished by highly decorative flowering.
These are plants belonging to the genera: Campsis, Tecoma, Tecomaria, Podranea, Distictis.
Varieties
•
Bignonia capreolata (Bignonia capreolata) is an evergreen climbing plant, each lash of which is equipped with a tendril with a suction cup, with the help of which the bignonia deftly climbs the support. Simple oblong leaves of light green color cast gloss. The main decoration of the plant is the lush and abundant inflorescences that appear in the summer, collected from spectacular tubular flowers of orange-red color. Later, long pods hang on the branches - the fruits of the growing season.
•
Rooting campsis (Campsis radicans) - from July to September, woody deciduous liana is decorated with apical panicle inflorescences, composed of many orange-red tubular flowers, not exuding aroma, but very decorative. The liana clings to the support with air roots. The leaves of the plant are complex, consisting of 7-11 leaves of a light green color, with a serrated edge and a pointed tip.
•
Large-flowered campsis (Campsis grandiflora) - differs from the above in less resistance and fewer leaves on a complex leaf. And it blooms later, in August-September, with orange-red dark flowers, of a larger size.
•
Tekoma upright (Tecoma stans) is a funnel-shaped shrub with bright yellow flowers with a red border.
•
Cape Tecomaria (Tecomaria capensis) - it has beautiful tubular-bell-shaped flowers.
•
Podrazolian (Podranea ricasoliana) - its pink flowers with red stripes are less common in our gardens.
•
Distictis buccinatorium (Distictis buccinatoria) - purple-red flowers with a yellow base, forming apical inflorescences-brushes against the background of oval-lanceolate green leaves. Not popular.
Growing
Despite the unpretentiousness, the soil prefers deep, loose, moist, but with good drainage. Requires abundant watering, but no stagnant water.
Chooses sunny places. The plant is thermophilic, only rooting Campsis is able to withstand sub-zero temperatures.
Reproduction
Depending on the type, the plants are propagated by seeds, semi-lignified cuttings or layering, dripping in long shoots.
Enemies
The bignonium juice was enjoyed by the prolific aphids. The branches of the plant, which aphids have chosen, are deformed and covered with black. As a fight against the pest, drugs against aphids are used, or time-tested folk remedies.

I first saw an attractive herb with large leaves and a snow-white inflorescence that looked like a Christmas candle on the unkempt lawn near my entrance. Among the disorderly grasses of the lawn, he looked like a foreign alien, solid, noble and imposing. I watched him for several summer seasons, but somehow it did not come to a closer acquaintance. An ornamental shrub is prized by gardeners for the brightness of foliage colors. Her spring-summer green outfit changes to yellow and deep red by the end of the summer cottage period. For Whom The Bells Ring
Of the 300 species of bells known to man, 12 are endangered. I decided to figure out whether it was a lot or a little, and got a mind-blowing result - such a loss is tantamount to the disappearance of the entire population of Russia from the face of our beautiful planet more than two times in a row. It seems that the magic number "12", symbolizing cosmic order and salvation, appeals to the consciousness of people destroying nature - our nurse
