On the plants attacked by the English mosaic, the development of reduced wrinkled leaves begins, and the number of female flowers, as well as of fruits, significantly decreases. Those fruits that have already set are characterized by slow development, acquire a mosaic color and are deformed. And in general, their quality deteriorates markedly.

The alternation of light green areas with dark green ones with the defeat of the English mosaic is quite clearly expressed. A particularly vivid manifestation of mosaicism can be observed in the case of a lesion of cucumbers with a white strain of the virus - only areas along the veins remain green, and all other parts of the leaf blades are strongly discolored. Fruit on infected plants is also characterized by a rather uneven color.

The causative agent of the infection is a harmful virus that has incredible resistance to the action of even the most extreme environmental factors - its viability remains when frozen, dried, and even when heated to 90 degrees. On dry leaves, the pathogen can persist for a year. And this virus usually infects a fairly small number of cultures. Typically, it is only found on cucumbers, watermelons, and melons. At the same time, he was not noticed on zucchini with pumpkin.

Sources of destructive infection are plant debris, soil and seeds, and in the seeds, viruses can be deployed both in the embryos and in the skin. And secondary infection can easily occur if contaminated juice gets on healthy crops. This usually happens during fruit collection. In principle, infection is possible even with the usual contact of healthy crops with infected ones. And viruses can also be stored in the inventory in a dried form.
