So that in the midst of a cold winter the immune system does not malfunction, and flu and colds are bypassed, it is very important to take care of the replenishment of vitamins and minerals. You can get them by eating frozen berries, which, despite cold processing, retain up to 70% of nutrients. What aspects to consider when choosing representatives of the plant world subjected to freezing?
Tip 1. Visually evaluate the packaging
Before sending frozen berries to the shopping basket, visually inspect the packaging. It should not show tears, damage and, moreover, frost. The latter factor is often due to improper storage, to be more precise, a violation of the temperature regime. By the way, the optimal storage temperature is -18C. Be sure to take a look at the refrigerator thermometer. If the conditions are not met, do not make a purchase, but rather contact the appropriate authorities.
Be sure to read the information on the packaging. The labeling must contain not only the composition, production date, expiration date and manufacturer's address (actual and legal), but also the method of freezing. Choose berries that are subject to shock freezing, because this method allows you to save the lion's share of biologically active substances. Avoid berries with the label "GMO" on the packaging.
Tip 2. Feel the contents of the package
Unfortunately, many manufacturers present their products in opaque bags, therefore, it is impossible to inspect the contents of the package. In such cases, use the organs of touch. Feel the package carefully. If there are stuck together lumps in it, most likely the product has been re-frozen or there is a considerable amount of ice in it. Such berries will not harm the body, but they will not give any benefit either, since secondary freezing promises a loss of nutritional value.
An important aspect! Note that small berries that are felt through the package are not an indicator of poor quality, rather, they indicate a variety.

A thick drink called a smoothie is an essential part of the diet of people who follow a healthy lifestyle. It keeps nutrients unchanged because it is not heat treated. Berry smoothies are especially useful during the cold and flu season, because the components that make up it help to strengthen the immune system.
Making smoothies is easy! It is enough to defrost the berries, combine them in a blender bowl with kefir, low-fat cream or natural yogurt without additives, beat until smooth. If the berries are sour, you can add a little sugar or honey. Also, the inclusion of nuts is not prohibited, however, they increase the calorie content of the finished delicacy, therefore, they should not be carried away.
• Sorbet

Sorbet is a frozen dessert made with berries and fruits. It is often supplemented with dairy products, egg whites, juice and alcoholic beverages, most often cognac and champagne. Like the previously described smoothie, sorbet is famous for its high content of vitamins and other nutrients. It will be a powerful competitor to high-calorie pastries and will be an excellent addition to the festive table.
You can cook sorbet from any berries and fruits. It is not forbidden to create whole mixes. To prepare a dessert, you need to combine frozen berries (without preliminary defrosting) with sugar, add a little water, beat thoroughly with a blender until smooth, pour into a plastic container and send to the refrigerator. Then beat the frozen mass every 20 minutes. If this manipulation is not carried out, the dessert will turn into a single ice ball. It is preferable to serve sorbet in the form of balls, garnished with jam, honey or a sprig of mint.
