Anubias Barter is distributed in the waters of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia and partly - Nigeria. This handsome man can grow both in the above-water state and in the semi-water state, and sometimes he is completely submerged in water. Most often, Barter's anubias grows on stones or on tree trunks, it can be found much less often in the ground. This wonderful aquatic inhabitant is very fond of fast currents and partial shade or shady areas. It is also great for aquariums
Getting to know the plant
The height of Barter's anubias often reaches forty centimeters, and the thickness of its rhizomes does not exceed one centimeter. Fancy creeping rhizomes are capable of forming over time numerous branches penetrating deep into the soil.
The leaves of this aquatic beauty are asymmetrical and can be either lanceolate or narrow ovoid. They grow in length up to fifteen centimeters, and in width - up to seven. Moreover, the length of the leaves is often equal to the length of the leaf petioles. Young leaves resemble slightly elongated droplets in shape: their middle parts are very wide, and the tops are very narrowed at the same time. The main veins of all leaves are quite pronounced and form small ribs on the lower sides. And their lateral veins are almost invisible.
Typically, the undersides of Barter's Anubias are velvety and incredibly pleasant to the touch, while the tops are glossy. As for the color of the leaves, it can vary from neutral to rich green shades.
Peduncles of Anubias Barter can be either large (up to forty centimeters long) or rather small (up to five centimeters). Each flower contains from three to eight accrete stamens, and the fruits of the wonderful aquatic inhabitant are flattened and round.
How to grow
Anubias Barter adapts to underwater conditions quite well, perfectly fitting into the design of aquariums. It grows rather slowly, and tall aquariums will be the most suitable for keeping it.
The rigidity of the aquatic environment does not significantly affect the development of this aquatic inhabitant and can vary from two to fifteen degrees. And the best temperature for growing it will be in the range of twenty-six to twenty-eight degrees. As for the acidity, it can range from 6, 4 to 7, 8.
A coarse-grained substrate or sand is best suited as a soil for growing Barter's Anubias. For its full development, it is recommended to lay the soil in a layer of three to five centimeters. That being said, it should be quite nutritious. And birch charcoal is perfect as a fertilizer. However, this shade-loving plant can easily strengthen on various decorative surfaces.
Anubias Bartera is a shade-loving plant, which is contraindicated in intense lighting. He also does not tolerate direct sunlight. If this handsome man grows next to light-loving green pets, then you need to try to shade him well. This is not difficult at all with the help of plants floating on the water surface. Ideally, anubias Barter needs diffused lighting.
Also, this aquatic beauty is very sensitive to the appearance of colonies of various algae on its leaves, so it should be protected in every possible way from such a misfortune. At the same time, in general, he is quite unpretentious in care.
Quite often, Barter's Anubias is used in aquariums that contain cichlid fish, since these nimble creatures are completely indifferent to its hard leathery leaves and do not tend to eat them. No worse, this aquatic beauty is also suitable for paludariums, in which it is recommended to grow it at a temperature of twenty-two to twenty-six degrees. At the same time, it is important to know that in the new conditions, Barter's anubias takes root extremely slowly.
