Fuchsia brilliant (lat. Fuchsia fulgens) Is a flowering plant belonging to the Cyprus family and is a highly decorative species.
Description
Fuchsia brilliant is an evergreen and densely branched shrub, the height of which ranges from one to two meters. The branches of these shrubs are always bare. The large opposite leaves of this plant have an oblong-ovate or heart-oval shape. Just like the twigs, they are bare, and along the edges all the leaves are finely toothed. They grow in length from fifteen to twenty centimeters, and in width - from eight to twelve centimeters.
The flowers of shiny fuchsia gather in rather thick hanging apical clusters and boast a delightful scarlet red color. The corolla tubes tapering towards the bases reach a length of ten centimeters, and the length of the petals usually does not exceed one centimeter. The stamens of shiny fuchsia are always prominent, and the short sepals are equipped with greenish or whitish tips. This beauty always blooms for a very long time and abundantly - you can admire its flowering from June to August. As for the fruits of this plant, they are fancy edible berries.
Where grows
The birthplace of brilliant fuchsia is considered to be Mexico, more precisely, the Mexican mountains.
Growing and caring
Fuchsia brilliant - a very unpretentious plant. In order for it to bloom profusely and delight with its excellent growth, it should be placed in semi-shady places. In indoor conditions, it can be installed on east or west windows. It is quite acceptable to put a flower pot on the north window, but in this case you should be prepared for the fact that its flowering will be shorter and much less abundant. As for flowering plants, it is categorically not recommended to constantly transfer them from one place to another - this can provoke the fall of flowers and buds. And this spectacular beauty is very afraid of drafts.
During the period of active growth, brilliant fuchsia will be quite satisfied with a temperature in the range from twenty to twenty-five degrees. In the summer, it can be taken out to the balcony or in the garden, but in this case it should be installed in a place that is reliably protected from the sun and wind. And in the winter of fuchsia, it is necessary to ensure proper rest by lowering the temperature to five to ten degrees. However, it is quite capable of overwintering at room temperature, but at the same time its shoots will stretch out, and the foliage will partially or completely fall off.
In spring and summer, shiny fuchsia should be systematically sprayed to maintain the most optimal air humidity for it. And during the dormant period, the plant, as a rule, does not need spraying - the only exception is the situation when the flower is kept in a well-heated room. In the latter case, spraying does not stop, moreover, you can put the pot in a pan filled with wet moss or expanded clay.
As for watering, from spring to autumn, the brilliant fuchsia will be very grateful for the abundant watering. It should be watered as the top soil layer dries up, and the water for irrigation should be well-settled and soft. Ideally, the soil in the pot should be slightly moistened at all times. Towards the end of the growing season, the number and volume of irrigation is gradually reduced, and with the onset of October and November they are practically stopped. In winter, if the plant is kept cool, it is rarely watered, and if shiny fuchsia is kept at room temperature, more frequent watering will be needed.
