Rudbeckia brilliant (lat. Rudbeckia fulgida) - flowering culture; a representative of the Rudbekaya genus of the Asteraceae family. Another name is radiant rudbeckia. It occurs naturally in the southeast of North America. Belongs to the category of perennials. Suitable for rustic gardens, suitable for a wide variety of flower beds, suitable for cutting and making bouquets.

Characteristics of culture

Rudbeckia brilliant is represented by perennial herbaceous plants no more than 60-70 cm high with erect thin dense stems and whole narrow-lanceolate leaves. Inflorescences - baskets, reach a diameter of 9-10 cm, consist of tubular dark purple flowers, and ligulate orange. Rudbeckia blooms brilliant in early July for 45 days.

Abundant flowering, long lasting. Fruiting is annual. Currently, one of the forms of the species in question, referred to as var, is presented on the garden market. Variabilis (variabis), and several varieties, the most common of which are considered - Goldsturm (Goldsturm) and Goldstar (Goldstar). They are distinguished by a convex center of brown color and golden marginal flowers.

The subtleties of growing

Rudbeckia brilliant, or radiant, is an adherent of nutritious, moist, water and air permeable, loamy and sandy soils with a neutral pH reaction. The culture will not tolerate dry, waterlogged, swampy, weedy and heavy soils. The location is preferably sunny; it is not recommended to plant rudbeckia in the shade. Lack of light will affect the development and flowering of the culture. Plants should spend half the day in the open sun.

Caring for rudbeckia brilliant consists in rare watering during a drought. I must say that abundant and regular watering is required only at the initial stage of growth, in the future, the volume of water and the number of irrigations can be reduced to a minimum, because the culture is drought-resistant. Also, work is required to loosen and remove weeds, which take away many nutrients from the rudbeckia.

The species in question, like all representatives of the genus, responds positively to feeding. During the season, it is necessary to carry out 2-3 additional fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizers dissolved in water. Rudbeckia radiant does not need a garter, this applies to specimens more than 80 cm in height. As the inflorescences bloom, the baskets are cut off, such a procedure will allow to extend the flowering period and give the plants a more attractive appearance.

Propagate rudbeckia brilliant, or radiant seeds. By the way, the plant often self-seeds. Seed germination is good. Sowing is carried out in the spring in open ground under a film, which is removed with the emergence of shoots. The first shoots hatch in a couple of weeks, provided that optimal conditions and watering are ensured. With the appearance of two true leaves on the seedlings, thinning is carried out.

Reproduction of rudbeckia by dividing bushes and rhizomes is not prohibited. These methods are especially actively used by experienced gardeners and florists. The division is carried out in the fall immediately after flowering or in the spring after the regrowth of the shoots. The division of the bushes should be done no more than 1 time in 4-5 years.

Use in the garden

Rudbeckia is a frequent visitor to summer cottages and household plots. She is able to bring zest to any composition. Plants are suitable for decorating flower beds, flower beds, group and single plantings. They can also be used to decorate buildings, fences, fences, gazebos and porches. They go well with other perennials such as asters, delphiniums, phlox, coreopsis and heliopsis.
