To prevent the garlic from drying out, the storage location should not be overly dry. But a very humid place is also not suitable - the garlic heads will be more susceptible to the development of various ailments and the formation of mold. Humidity between 50% and 80% is most suitable.

Experienced gardeners have noticed that the best keeping quality is characteristic of garlic heads with three covering scales.

Storage options

There are so many options for storing a garlic crop that everyone will certainly be able to choose exactly the one that suits him.

Wreaths, panicles and braids. Fancy pigtails are woven from the harvested garlic, as well as from onions. In addition, magnificent wreaths are obtained from it. To weave a funny pigtail, only the leaves are removed from dry garlic, while leaving the garlic heads and false stems. Pigtails are usually braided from below, gradually weaving new onions into them - fifteen to seventeen of them can easily fit into one pigtail. For greater strength of the created masterpieces, it is recommended to weave them into braids and twine. And in order to have something to hang them for, small loops are made at their very ends. You can hang such colorful pigtails anywhere - in the basement, in the closet, and even in the closet. The most important thing is that the chosen place is not very humid, rather cool and as dark as possible. Garlic is also perfectly stored in funny bunches of brooms. To make such panicles, rather long stems are also left.

Wicker baskets. Wicker baskets, especially birch bark baskets, have a very beneficial effect on the preservation of garlic. And they place the baskets filled with crops in the entryway or in the attic.

Nylon stockings. They can store not only onions, but also garlic. Store it in similar containers in cool and not very humid places, periodically checking them for damaged specimens.

Wooden boxes with salt. Garlic is placed in shallow, but solid wooden boxes with small holes, sprinkling its layers with coarse salt. In this way, the drawers are filled to the very brim.

Sterilized jars. Clean and well-dried garlic, not freed from the scales, is placed in pre-sterilized glass jars, sprinkling the garlic heads with coarse salt. Such a solution will not allow various ailments to get to the harvested crop. Some summer residents do not sprinkle garlic with salt, however, in this case, it remains very well. And some housewives sometimes sprinkle the garlic stored in jars with dry flour. In this case, the top layer of flour should be at least two centimeters long.

Linen bags. Another great way to preserve your garlic harvest. Depending on the humidity, before being sent for storage, the garlic heads can be rinsed in a solution of coarse table salt, which must be highly concentrated, and then dry them thoroughly. This measure will protect garlic from various ailments and pests. And at low humidity, garlic heads are sprinkled with crumbly onion husks.
