What to plant in the fall in the country or in the garden?

It would seem that autumn is harvest time, and what kind of plantings can we talk about? However, it is not. Autumn is a great time to plant some plants. It is in the fall that they take root best and do not get sick. And they are also the ones who will delight in the spring with the very first vitamins. What plants are we talking about?

1. Various greens

Autumn is a great time to plant seeds of various greens, which will delight the eye in early spring and help replenish the supply of vitamins lost during the winter. What exactly can be planted in autumn: parsley, dill, leeks, lettuce, mustard, spinach, parsnips. As well as various spicy and aromatic herbs used as seasonings.

If shoots appear before the bed is covered with snow, then cover the greens with a layer of straw before frost. It will keep plants from freezing and will serve as an excellent barrier against weeds in the spring.

2. Berry bushes

For example, raspberries, currants (both black and red and white), strawberries, gooseberries, honeysuckle. All of them are not afraid of the autumn planting. On the contrary, it is recommended to divide strawberries and form a bed with this berry in the fall. Before digging and dividing the bushes, we prepare the garden bed if the berries are moved to a new place. If they stay on the old one, then first carefully dig up the bushes, then dig up the soil, apply fertilizers and prepare the garden for planting. We carefully divide the plants themselves and thin them out so that there are no dense thickets. We plant the berries in a sunny, warm, well-ventilated place.

3. Vegetables

Some types of vegetables are also planted "before winter". Separately, I want to say about the timing: in each region they are different, but there is one general rule: during the day the air temperature should not exceed 10 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, vegetables will actively grow and will simply freeze out in winter. It turns out that efforts and money will be wasted.

What are we planting "before winter"? First of all, onions and garlic on the heads. They survive the cold winter well and sprout in early spring, allowing us to add fresh and sharp feathers to our diet. Carrots, beets, radishes and Chinese cabbage are also planted before winter.

How to plant? Planting is carried out in a previously prepared bed: all predecessor plants must be removed, the earth is carefully loosened and fertilizers or humus with peat are applied. We make holes and carefully fall asleep. We plant it to a depth of 5-6 centimeters to avoid freezing.

4. Flowers

In autumn, perennial, including biennial, flowers are planted in the ground. For example, peonies, astilba, phlox, pansies, delphinium and others. Also, shortly before frost, bulbous plants are planted in the ground, the flowering of which occurs in spring: daffodils, hyacinths, tulips.

What does the planting of all of the above flowers give in the fall? In autumn, plants root better, which means that in spring they will not get sick and will actively grow. In addition, the autumn planting perfectly hardens and adapts flowers to low temperatures, which excludes their subsequent death from unexpected spring frosts.

5. Fruit trees

Autumn is a great time to plant all kinds of fruit trees, from apples and cherries to peaches and plums. The trees planted at this time will take root over the winter and in the spring they will actively grow, bypassing the disease.

Before planting, carefully inspect the seedlings, remove diseased branches and roots to avoid the spread of diseases. Check carefully for the presence of various pests in the roots and on the remaining leaves. Place the infected leaves and roots in a container and then burn them.

By the way, after planting the trees, it is advisable to whiten them in order to protect them from frost and sunburn.
