Many summer residents are in a hurry to get rid of the nettle thickets on the site as soon as possible, and it is completely in vain - this plant makes an excellent, and most importantly, budget fertilizer! Nettle top dressing will not only nourish garden crops with almost all the trace elements they need, but will also help increase yields! And this means that it's time to look at the nettle from a completely different angle and arm yourself with its help for the benefit of future harvests

What crops can be fed with nettles?

The most useful nettle dressings will be gratefully accepted by almost any culture - it is undesirable to indulge them only with garlic and onions, as well as legumes, because nettles can begin to inhibit their growth.

In most cases, infusions are prepared for dressing - as a rule, such infusions are a thoroughly fermented green plant mass. And in order to enhance the effect of such dressings, some other additional components are often added to them.

How to prepare nettle infusion?

There are a great many recipes and technologies for preparing nettle infusion, but the classic version still does not lose its relevance and popularity. The leaves and twigs of the nettle not affected by the seed formation process are thoroughly crushed and transferred to an oak barrel or into a plastic container so that more than half of this container is filled with green mass. But it is not recommended to take iron containers for the preparation of nettle infusion - nettle can easily enter into various reactions with metal, during which many useful substances are destroyed.

Next, the container with the chopped nettle laid in it is filled with warm water or boiling water, after which the container is covered with a lid and the mixture is infused for about two weeks. The main thing is not to forget to mix the preparation thoroughly every day! By the way, if the nettle is in the sun for a long time, it will take much less time to ferment. However, you can speed up this process in another way - add to the composition either a liquid fertilizer called "Baikal", or a small amount of yeast.

Fermented nettle emits a very unpleasant, one might even say that a fetid odor - in order to get rid of it, it will not hurt to add valerian root to the prepared infusion and prepared in advance.

As soon as the vigorous fermentation process is completed (that is, the infusion stops foaming and acquires a dark color), the finished mixture is diluted with water at a 1:10 ratio. This is for root dressing! It is quite permissible to resort to foliar dressing, but for them the strained infusion will need to be diluted with water already 1:20.

If desired, nettle infusion can also be enriched by adding plants such as comfrey, dandelion (before seeds begin to form on it), yarrow, wormwood, burdock, chamomile, as well as coltsfoot, wheatgrass, etc.

How often should you feed the plants?

Root feeding with nettle infusion is usually carried out once or twice a week - it is best to do this simultaneously with watering, after rain or on a cloudy day. When shedding soil around growing crops, they try to spend 500 - 1000 ml for each bush. As for foliar dressings (in other words, spraying on leaves), they are carried out no more than once a month. It is also important to take into account that feeding with all kinds of green fertilizers is ideally best done during the period of active plant growth (that is, in the spring or at the beginning of the summer season), since they largely contribute to the growth of dense green mass. But at the fruiting stage, it is definitely not worth abusing such dressings, otherwise green pets will grow violently, and their fruiting will be extremely scarce.

Be sure to arm yourself with such a wonderful helper as nettles, because this is not just a garden weed, it is also a valuable top dressing - a huge help for getting impressive harvests!
