Bright front gardens, decorative flower beds already in early spring begin to delight summer residents with lush greenery, tight buds and the first delicate blossoming petals. However, with the first warm rays of the sun, harmful insects and other pathogens, awakened from hibernation, begin to activate their parasitic activity. This activity is especially visible in May, when in many gardens it is already warm in summer, and the parasites have long since got out of their hiding places. How can you help your decorative pets to survive this difficult period and get rid of intruders?
Circular spot on iris leaves
In early May, irises bloom actively. At the same time, one can observe how the tops of their leaves are covered with oval watery spots of yellow shades. Over time, they acquire a darker color and a brown rim, and the leaf area also increases. This is how circular spotting manifests itself. If you do not treat the flowers, the leaves will dry out completely. The procedure for dealing with circular spotting is lengthy and requires repeated treatment of plants with a fungicide. For this, spraying with "Homecin", "Tsineb" is used.
Protect lilies from gray mold
At the end of May, gray mold becomes a dangerous enemy of plants. During this period, lilies are most vulnerable to disease. The disease can completely destroy flowers in a flower bed. It is easy to recognize the disease by the huge rotting spots on the flower buds. Their distinctive feature is a dusty brown moldy mycelium containing disease-causing spores. With a high density of plantations, the disease affects not only the buds and flowers, but also the leaves of the lilies. Here they acquire a yellow color with a red border.
In order to prevent the emergence of a focus of infection, it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment of plantings already in the middle of the month. For this purpose, with an interval of two weeks, flower beds are sprayed twice with a solution of fungicides.
How to help roses?
In May, roses are especially hard. At this time, they are attacked by sawfly larvae, bugs, and aphids. The larva of the rose sawfly, which emerged from the egg under the bark of the shoot, usually hides inside the young leaves rolled up in a tube. There they begin to gnaw out the flesh of the leaf plate, leaving behind only a skeleton of veins. They spread very quickly throughout the plant, so action should be taken urgently. In the fight against the sawfly, spraying with "Chlorophos" is effective.
The presence of a bug on the roses is evidenced by bruising and curling of leaves, punctures and holes in the plate. In addition to roses, chrysanthemums and dahlias, asters and sage, mallow and fragrant tobacco also become victims of bedbugs. As a result of the life activity of bedbugs, plants slow down in development and cannot form flower buds.
Spraying plants with "Ovadofos" or "Karbofos" is used against bedbugs. This should be done in the morning. As a preventive measure for the appearance of bedbugs in the garden, it is necessary to keep the site clean, to get rid of plant debris in time, because it is in such garbage that parasites prefer to spend the winter.
Aphids feed on the sap of plant leaves. They are dangerous not only because they weaken the flowers, sucking out nutrients, but also with their waste products, clogging the plant with sticky secretions. In addition, aphids are a carrier of viral diseases from other plants. And besides roses, they also parasitize on asters, dahlias, chrysanthemums, tulips, irises, nasturtiums and many other ornamental plants. Aphids are discouraged by the pungent smell of marigolds, so it is useful to have these flowers in your garden. To get rid of the insect, the flowers are also sprayed with the chemical Pirimor.
