Melon is a juicy, tasty and healthy fruit that almost everyone loves! Before eating fragrant pieces, we always cleanse the melon from the seeds accumulated in its core, and then ruthlessly discard them along with the peel. But few people know that melon seeds can be used - as it turned out, they are very useful and are a valuable medicinal raw material! So why not stock up on them at the height of the season?
A little about the composition
Just like many other seeds, the energy balance of melon seeds is shifted mainly towards fats - there are as many as 77% of them. However, in addition to fats, they also contain proteins (13%) and carbohydrates (14.6%)! As for the vitamin composition, in this case it is inherited from the fruits themselves, only, of course, in somewhat smaller volumes. But these seeds are dominated by neurovitamins (PP, as well as B6 and B9), vital for the normal functioning of the nervous system! They also contain valuable antioxidants in the form of vitamins A and C!
In folk medicine, melon seeds are valued not at all for vitamins and not for proteins, fats or carbohydrates, but for their impressive mineral content! They contain copper with zinc, and iron with potassium, as well as calcium and magnesium with sodium! But such seeds are especially appreciated for the impressive content of pectin polysaccharide! This polysaccharide is extremely important in the current ecological situation that is far from being the most favorable for the body - by forming sufficiently stable bonds with various pesticides, the most dangerous radionuclides and no less harmful heavy metals, it contributes to their speedy elimination from the deep bowels of the body. And it is also endowed with the ability to envelop the molecules of the so-called "bad" cholesterol that contribute to the development of hypertension, atherosclerosis or diabetes, quickly and effectively expelling them out!
What are the benefits of melon seeds?
In addition to the fact that melon seeds perfectly help to take care of the health of the nervous system, as well as strengthen the immune system and cleanse the body (they perfectly cope with the rather difficult task of cleansing both the pancreas and the liver), they will be an excellent help for diabetics, and all thanks to their ability to remove low density cholesterol and lower sugar levels!
Also, the substances contained in melon seeds can help in uncorking the gallbladder valves, thereby contributing to the full outflow of processed bile in patients with cholecystitis, and a very solid zinc content makes them incredibly useful for representatives of the strong half of humanity - melon seeds will help them not only improve sperm quality, but also to restore potency! However, it is zinc that makes the miraculous seeds no less useful for women, turning them into the most elixir of beauty - thanks to this element, it will not be difficult to restore splendor and luxurious shine to curls, marigolds - their former strength and firmness, and skin - natural beauty and a healthy glow. Moreover, zinc contributes significantly to the healing of acne and dermatitis!
Folic acid, of which there are also many in these seeds, will become a reliable assistant to all expectant mothers, ensuring the full development of the fetus, and their ability to remove uric acid from the human body will help prevent the formation of kidney stones and the genitourinary system.
Melon seeds have a pronounced expectorant effect, which makes it possible to significantly alleviate the course of a wide variety of ailments of the respiratory system, including the ill-fated bronchitis!
How to use it?
For recreational purposes, you can safely use both dried melon seeds, crushed to a powdery state, and infusions or decoctions prepared from them. But it is categorically not recommended to use them when sprouted, because in this case they become toxic and acquire an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. And, of course, do not forget about the sense of proportion - even a medicine taken in excessive quantities can cause irreparable harm to the body!
As for contraindications, melon seeds are strictly forbidden to use for stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers, and citizens suffering from spleen ailments should not eat them on an empty stomach. But future mothers can use such seeds, however, no more than one hundred grams per day - of course, they are very useful for the full development of the fetus, but you still should not overdo it with them, as this can easily provoke heaviness in the stomach or severe constipation. Melon seeds also significantly complicate the process of freeing the body from acetone, which can lead to increased toxicosis.
Before throwing out the seeds extracted from the melon, it does not hurt to think carefully - is it really worth doing this, or is it still much better to try to turn them into your faithful helpers and turn their miraculous properties for the benefit of your own health?
