Onosma belongs to perennial herbaceous plants, in total in this genus there are about thirty varieties. The height of this bush can be about ten to forty centimeters, and the formation of flowers occurs at the very tops of erect shoots.

It should be noted that onosma flowers will be very fragrant, but in color they can be either white-pink or yellow. The flowering of this plant will be very long: it begins in May or July, while everything will depend on the type of onosma. It is noteworthy that this amazing plant is very often used when creating containers and alpine slides.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of onosma

First of all, it is important to note that this plant is not particularly whimsical to care for, however, strict adherence to all growing conditions is required: only in this case you can get a truly beautiful plant that will serve you for a long time. For planting onosma, it is recommended to choose a sunny place, which will be reliably protected from any wind hit. As for the choice of soils, they should be light, well-drained, as well as sandy or loamy. The reaction of such soil can be both slightly alkaline and neutral.

Watering this plant will be required exclusively during the summer season, it is noteworthy that it is necessary to water the onosma only on especially hot days. It is important to remember that excessive watering can have an extremely negative effect on the condition of this plant. For this reason, the plant requires good drainage. In the autumn period, such watering should be very seriously reduced.

Among other things, it should be remembered that this plant does not require additional feeding. However, in order to improve the soil, it is recommended to add slaked lime. It is noteworthy that this plant is not endowed with a particularly strong resistance to winter cold, for this reason, for the winter period of planting time, it should be covered with dry fallen leaves. In addition, in winter, onosma plantings can grow out.

Reproduction of onosma

Reproduction of this plant will take place with the help of seeds. Seeds should be sown in the spring, which requires a light but moist substrate. It is recommended to germinate the seeds of this plant at room temperature. In addition, it is necessary to arrange the landings either under glass or under plastic wrap. Moisten the substrate as needed. When the seedlings grow up a little, they should be dived into separate containers. Before starting direct planting in open ground, the seedlings should be hardened, for which they will need to be taken out into fresh air.

Most often, gardeners are advised to plant seedlings in open ground at the very beginning of June, after the threat of frost has completely passed. During the first week after planting plants in open ground, the seedlings should be shaded.

As for diseases and pests, this plant is endowed with special resistance not only to various diseases, but also to pests. Nevertheless, among the possible problems with cultivation, it should be noted that this plant may simply die from an excess of moisture.

Onosma looks like undersized grass or dwarf shrubs. This plant belongs to a genus called borage, in total there are about one hundred and fifty species in the genus. Most often, these plants are found in the Mediterranean and in parts of Asia. About thirty species of this plant grow on the territory of Russia. It is noteworthy that onosma was listed in the Red Book of the USSR.
