A gentle carpet of green leaves and white heads of fragrant inflorescences is spread under your feet, on which you can walk barefoot. This carpet was created by Creeping Clover, which people affectionately call "White Kashka". And in the meadow clover, trying to outstrip the White Kashka with its beauty, the flower heads are larger and brighter, since their flower petals are pink-purple. These two representatives of the Clover genus grow everywhere, and therefore are known to any Russian. But there are about 250 species in the genus, among which there are owners of brighter inflorescences, or inflorescences that surprise with their unusual shape or rather large sizes
Clover is a natural worker
Clover, unpretentious to living conditions, has a lot of advantages:
* He treats bees with flower nectar, which produce fragrant healing honey from it, which is among the best types of honey. So that the treat was not free, Clover hides nectar closer to the flower ovary, which bees pollinate along the way with the meal. Such is the natural friendship of a plant and an insect.
* Clover "leases" part of the surface of its roots to underground microorganisms, which pay off the plant with nitrogen, which they extract from the air. In this way, Clover restores soil fertility for itself and the surrounding plants. Note that where clover grows, the leaves of its neighbors are much greener and juicier than where there is no clover.
* Clover greens are rich in plant proteins and many useful substances, and therefore herbivores, including humans, use the herb for nutrition. Fresh clover leaves are added to salads and all kinds of soups.
* Clover is an excellent healer. Infusions and decoctions of Clover herb help fight diseases that attack a variety of organs of the human body, and therefore are actively used by traditional medicine.
* Many types of Clover are very picturesque and are popular with gardeners and florists.
Creeping clover and meadow clover
First, let's remember how the regulars of our meadows, forest edges, and the sides of dirt roads leading to the dacha look like. On the left is a photo of a creeping clover (Latin Trifolium repens), on the right is a meadow clover (Latin Trifolium pratense):
And now let's consider several types of Clover, which, perhaps, someone will learn about for the first time.
Blood red clover or crimson clover
Blood-red clover (Latin Trifolium incarnatum) is a fairly tall plant, reaching a height of half a meter. The leaves are traditionally composed of three leaflets with a hairy surface and decorative appearance. The inflorescences of the plant are very effective, having the shape of an elongated head formed by numerous miniature brightly colored flowers. The sail of moth flowers bends its top forward, which distinguishes the flowers of this type of clover from other species. Bright, fragrant flowers with a long flowering period will perfectly fit into any type of flower garden.
Narrow-leaved clover
Narrow-leaved clover (Latin Trifolium angustifolium) is a large original. He decided to drastically change his appearance, considering the traditional rounded leaves and capitate inflorescence too rustic for himself. Not everyone will distinguish in this plant with narrow leaves and a spike-shaped inflorescence, more like a sprig of a coniferous tree, a representative of the genus Clover. However, meticulous nerds are not easy to fool.
Clover pannonian
Pannonian clover (lat. Trifolium pannonicum) settled in a number of European countries. In its specific epithet "Pannonian" the Roman province "Pannonia" continues to live, the lands of which today belong to several countries, including Hungary. Therefore, in the literature you can find a synonym for this species - "Hungarian clover".
This species stands out among its relatives for its relatively large size, both of the whole plant (up to 80 cm high) and of a pale yellow inflorescence (up to 7 cm in length and up to 4 cm in width), which looks more like an egg than a modest head of creeping clover. And the leaves of the shamrock are not round, but lanceolate. Otherwise, this is a real Clover.
Note: In the main photo, Golden clover (Latin Trifolium aureum).
