Ripe and juicy pineapples are loved by everyone - these tropical guests are not only tasty, but also very healthy. Sometimes it is enough to put a single pineapple on the table with the usual dishes, and a festive atmosphere immediately reigns in the house. Nevertheless, not all of us are able to quickly choose a high-quality and juicy pineapple, and only a few know how to store these wonderful fruits. However, this is quite fixable

How to choose?

To check the degree of ripeness of the pineapple, lightly press on the skin with your finger. The skin of a juicy and ripe fruit will be slightly squeezed under pressure, but after a few seconds it will return to its original appearance. And hard pineapples indicate that they are not yet ripe. By the way, many hostesses prefer to acquire just such fruits so that they subsequently ripen at home. However, fruits that have ripened outside the parent plants will taste markedly different from those harvested when fully ripe.

How to store?

Unripe fruits are left at room temperature for about three days, no more. For a quick ripening of pineapples, a temperature of about ten degrees or a little more is sufficient. At the same time, it is not necessary to pack the fruits, and the place in which they were put to ripen must be darkened. And so that pineapples do not begin to become covered with unpleasant dark spots, you must also carefully monitor the level of humidity in the room. By the way, this indicator plays a key role in the safe preservation of juicy tropical fruits - in no case should it exceed 90%.

As for the ideal temperature for storing pineapples, it is seven to eight degrees. If the thermometer rushes above these values, then the fruits will begin to overripe and deteriorate, and if it drops below seven degrees, then the pineapples will simply freeze, which will entail the loss of their excellent taste and juiciness, which is also very undesirable.

Unpeeled ripe fruits are kept fairly well in the "freshness zone" of the refrigerator for twelve days. And for better preservation of pineapples, it is recommended to wrap them with porous paper (you can make holes in regular paper) and periodically turn them from one side to the other.

To prevent pineapples stored in the refrigerator from unexpectedly growing moldy, it is important to monitor the condition of all fruits stored in the neighborhood. If tropical guests are next to fruits or vegetables that have begun to deteriorate, they will very quickly be struck by harmful mold.

Freeze pineapples

Frozen pineapples are also perfectly stored. Moreover, freezing significantly prolongs their shelf life. Before you start freezing ripe fruits, they are peeled and cut into small slices, after which the slices are transferred to pre-prepared food containers and sent to the freezer. If food containers are not available, plastic bags can also be used. In this form, pineapples are excellently stored for up to four months, while the storage duration does not in any way affect their taste.

What about peeled or cut fruits?

Peeled pineapples are wrapped in cling film or placed in plastic bags and sent to the refrigerator. If the fruit has already been cut, then the plates with slices are tightened on top with cling film and also placed in the refrigerator. However, in both cases, pineapples are only able to survive for a maximum of three days.

By the way, you can try to grow new fruits from cut pineapple tuft. Why not? After all, as they say, an attempt is not torture!
