Badan Strechi (lat. Vergenia stracheyi) - one of the brightest representatives of the Badan genus of the Stonefrag family. A decorative type that is actively used in ornamental gardening. He is a participant in numerous breeding experiments, thanks to him, several lovely varieties were obtained that can boast of special attractiveness and beauty. In nature, Strechi badan can be captured in the Himalayas, the People's Republic of China and Asian countries. Typical habitats are mountain slopes and rocks with moderately moist soils.
Characteristics of culture
Badan Strechi is represented by herbaceous plants with creeping stems, which take root along their entire length during growth. The foliage of the species in question is green, glossy, toothed, incised, ciliated, ovoid. The flowers, in turn, are small in size, lilac, pink or white, collected in large clusters. Flowering is observed for a couple of weeks in mid-summer. The culture enters fruiting not earlier than September, sometimes the process is delayed until mid-late October.
Famous varieties in Russia
To this day, active breeding work is underway with the badan Strech. Today, in the garden market, you can find several varieties, which, like the main species, are famous for creeping shoots. Their differences lie in the shape of the foliage, its color in the autumn, the shade and size of the flowers, as well as the timing of flowering. Thus, the Alba variety is characterized by snow-white flowers that bloom in late spring. Belveder is no less attractive. It is characterized by short stature, small foliage and white flowers, which over time change color to a light pink hue. The Beetchoven variety is also popular among gardeners. He, like the previous varieties, has white flowers, but equipped with brown cups.
The history of the discovery of the species
It is important to note that the species in question was discovered only in 1928. Then in the Pamirs (a mountain system located in the south of Central Asia and in the north of the Himalayan mountain range) an expedition headed by N. Gorbunov was working. During the expedition, the participants met a new species of plant, which did not have a single flower. The plant was named after the leader of the expedition, but later the name was changed to Badan Strechi.
The reason for this was the finds on the Gissar ridge. It was there, more precisely in shaded areas and near springs, that relict plants were captured, which were called Strech's badan. The relict relatives were outwardly identical to the plant found by Gorbunov, therefore it was decided to change the name. Reclaimed specimens can still be found on the Asian mountains in secluded places, warmed by the sun's rays, but in minimal numbers.
Growing features
Badan Strechi prefers areas with diffused light. Also, plants feel great on semi-shady areas, endowed with moderately moist, fertile, loose, turfy, neutral soil. It is not forbidden to plant crops in sunny areas, but in this case it is important to provide them with regular and abundant watering. Dry soil will negatively affect the health of the plant.
In general, taking care of Strecha's incense does not take much time. In addition to watering, you should systematically remove weeds or mulch the soil around. Thus, the grower will protect the soil from rapid evaporation of moisture and weed growth. It is also important to remove withered foliage, because it negatively affects the decorative properties of the plant. Top dressing is welcome, this procedure is carried out immediately after flowering, using complex fertilizers.
