Siberian cortusa (lat. Cortusa sibirica) - a perennial herb of the genus Kortuza of the Primroses family. Another name is the Yakut cortusa (lat. Cortusa jakutica). The rocky and stony areas of Siberia and the Far East are considered to be the homeland of the species. There the plant grows in natural conditions. Often the species can be found along the banks of streams and in coniferous forests. Nowadays it is used in ornamental gardening, but less actively than the closest "brother" - the Mattioli cortusa.

Characteristics of culture

Siberian or Yakut kortuza is represented by densely pubescent plants up to 40 cm high, topped with round or ovoid green foliage with a pronounced grayish tint, formed due to dense hairs. The foliage does not exceed 6 cm in diameter. It also has sharp or obtuse serrated lobes and narrow-winged petioles.

The flowers are medium-sized, reddish-purple, collected in umbellate inflorescences. The flower calyx of the Siberian cortusa is glandular along the veins, equipped with sharp lanceolate teeth. The fruits are represented by polyspermous oblong capsules.

The species cannot boast of high decorative properties, but despite this, gardeners and florists willingly plant it on their plots. Still would! She is shade-tolerant, and can decorate even a heavily shaded area, as well as keep company with moisture-loving plants that easily get along along the banks of reservoirs.

Application

In addition to its use in gardening, the culture is used for medicinal purposes. As a rule, foliage and rhizomes are used. The plant promotes the rapid healing of skin diseases, inflammation, furunculosis and other unpleasant problems associated with the integument. It acts as a bactericidal and anesthetic agent. Previously, Siberian cortex was also used as a choleretic agent. There is evidence of the use of the plant in the treatment of respiratory diseases.

Nowadays, Siberian cortusa extract is famous among the manufacturers of medicinal cosmetics that solve dermatological problems. It acts as a bactericidal, anti-inflammatory and analgesic component. The extract of the plant also serves for the benefit of people who are faced with acne and skin rashes.

The component is considered to be safe, especially if it is used for its intended purpose, but in any case, before using it, it is imperative to consult a dermatologist, because the properties of the plant have not been thoroughly studied.

It should be noted that the therapeutic effect is provided due to the high content of Siberian vitamin C (aka ascorbic acid), essential oil, flavonoids, saponins, carotenoids and glycosides in the cortusa foliage. Therefore, cosmetics containing Siberian cortusa extract will help get rid of not only the ailments of problem skin, but also dryness, premature aging and flaking.
