Badan Pacific (lat. Vergenia pacifica) - a species of the genus Badan of the Saxifrage family. It is rarely used in ornamental gardening and floriculture, but it deserves attention for its unpretentiousness and ability to develop normally even in shady areas. In nature, the representative of the genus under consideration is found in the People's Republic of China, the Far East and Korea. Typical growth areas are forest zones, including fir, cedar and mixed. Also, the plant can be captured in the mountains, meadows and taiga.
Characteristics of culture
Pacific badan is represented by perennial herbaceous plants equipped with a long rhizome. The foliage of the species under consideration is compacted, naked over the entire surface, shiny, dentate, notched, petiolate, ovoid. A distinctive feature of the foliage is the presence of a rather convex vein in the middle.
The rosette foliage is also petiolate, in length does not exceed 20 cm. It should be noted that the foliage that has endured the winter period dies, at the same time acquiring a brown color with a red undertone. Such foliage is often used in cooking and even traditional medicine to make medicinal tea that has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract.
The flowering shoot of the culture does not have foliage, it has a reddish color. The flowers are bell-shaped, numerous, deep pink in color, no more than 20 mm in length. Flowering is observed immediately after the snow melts, sometimes later. Flowering lasts 14-30 days. The fruit is represented by a capsule. Seeds ripen in early to mid-summer, less often this process is postponed until August.
Growing features
Badan pacific, as already mentioned, does not belong to whimsical plants. However, in order to provide the culture with active growth and achieve abundant flowering, it is necessary to plant it in areas with light, loamy, loose and slightly acidic soil with an optimal level of moisture. The location, in turn, is preferably semi-shaded with diffused light. Also, the culture can be planted in well-lit areas, but with the condition of proper watering.
The pacific incense is propagated by the seed method, by dividing the bush and cuttings. The first method can be seedling and seedless. Sowing is carried out in early spring in open ground or at the end of March in seedling boxes filled with nutritious and disinfected soil. Also, sowing can be carried out immediately after collecting seeds, this method is even preferable, since seeds that have undergone natural stratification allow you to get more abundant and friendly shoots. With spring sowing, the entrances appear in about 3-4 weeks, however, the plants grown by the seed method bloom only in the third year after sowing.
To achieve flowering of the culture already in the first year, the culture should be propagated vegetatively, that is, by dividing the bush or by cuttings. The first method is less laborious than the second. However, if the latter is used, then middle-aged plants are selected to obtain the material, and the procedure itself is carried out immediately after flowering.
When dividing a bush, the planting material is considered to be a part of the rhizome obtained with a sharp bayonet shovel. It must necessarily have at least 2-3 buds located under the sheaths of dead foliage. The planting material is washed and immediately planted in prepared soil, fertilized with rotted organic matter and complex fertilizers. The optimal distance between plantings is 30 cm, ideally 40 cm. If you plant Pacific berry too close to each other, the plants will not please with active growth and abundant flowering.
