Pear Boissier (lat. Pyrus boissieriana) - a fruit plant belonging to the Pink family.

Description

The Boissier pear is a rather attractive deciduous tree with simple leaves, devoid of division. The inflorescences of this type of pear can look like funny shields, fancy tassels or spectacular umbrellas, and each flower has five petals. This is the only pear variety in which the flower cups fall off during fruiting.

The Boissier pear was first described in 1860 by Friedrich Alexander Buse, a famous Baltic botanist. In a number of sources, it is considered as an analogue of a heart-shaped pear. Quite often, you can also meet hybrids of this culture with an ordinary pear.

Where grows

Pear Buassier can be found in the Turkmen mountainous regions, as well as in the southeastern part of Azerbaijan and in the northern Iranian regions. Moreover, in Azerbaijan, such a pear is considered a very rare species - back in 1989, it was even included in the local Red Book. And now it is also included in the Turkmen Red Book. In all regions of growth, this culture is quite rare.

Application

The fruits of the Boissier pear are good both on their own and in the form of jam, compotes or jams.

Since the Boissier pear is a very drought-resistant crop, in Turkmenistan, as well as in the Caucasus, it often serves as a rootstock for the most productive pear varieties. It is also widely used to obtain all kinds of hybrid varieties.

Growing and caring

For planting Boissier pears, it is best to choose high-quality two-year seedlings, and for full development and growth, they must be planted in well-lit areas. If you plant such a pear in a shaded area, its leaves will begin to thin and fade, and fruiting, as well as the taste of the fruit, will noticeably deteriorate. The most ideal place for its growth will be well-lit places located in the southern part of the site on small hills.

Best of all, the Boissier pear will feel on rather loose and dense loamy soils, enriched with various nutrients and humus, the pH of which ranges from 6, 5 to 7, 2.

The seedlings are placed in pre-prepared planting holes, the depth of which is half a meter, and the area is about 60x60 centimeters. It is recommended to install good drainage on the bottom of these pits, and pour a high-quality nutrient mixture on top (for its preparation, you can mix 0.8 buckets of humus or a whole bucket of compost with potassium chloride in the amount of 40 g and superphosphate in the amount of 90 g). And if the seedlings are a little dry, then before planting their roots must be kept in water for ten hours.

The Boissier pear does not need frequent watering, since excessive waterlogging will inevitably entail the subsequent decay of its roots. The main thing is to try to maintain uniform soil moisture throughout the summer. The soil near each tree should always be clean - in order to suppress the growth of weeds, you can plant such green manure as lupine in the immediate vicinity of the trees.

To give the roots the opportunity to breathe, with the onset of spring, it is necessary to properly loosen the top soil layer - this approach will at the same time help to increase the susceptibility of plants to moisture and all kinds of nutrients. To improve the yield, from the second year of life of fruit trees, they begin to make various top dressing, and for the winter, the roots must be insulated without fail, covering them with foliage, straw or a special film.
