Peppers have long been loved by summer residents and gardeners, since this vegetable absorbs a lot of nutrients. It is unlikely that any other fruit can compare in usefulness with pepper. But, of course, the features of growing pepper are not as simple as gardeners want. Often the questions of vegetable growers face such a problem as planting pepper in the ground
How to choose the time and place for planting pepper?
Do not plant pepper in the open air too early, as the ground that has not yet been warmed up can negatively affect the appearance and health of the plant. The development of the pepper bush will become slower. The air temperature outside at the time of planting seedlings in the open air should be about fifteen to seventeen degrees. It is enough for the soil to warm up to at least ten degrees, but in no case less. The timing of planting pepper on open beds in different regions is different. Low temperatures and frosts are very dangerous for peppers, as they can destroy the plant. Therefore, peppers are planted on the street when the sprouts give the first buds of inflorescences. Usually at this moment about ten leaves are already present. The main dates for planting peppers in a greenhouse is the first half of May, but vegetables are planted in open ground only from May 10 to early June. However, for open beds, you need to immediately think about a small, do-it-yourself greenhouse with the help of a film.
You should not plant peppers where potatoes or tomatoes were previously placed, but a garden bed after cucumbers, zucchini and legumes (beans, peas, etc.) will be an excellent place. The area where you plan to plant pepper seedlings should have a lot of sunlight, and the risk of drafts is best minimized. The land itself must be cleared of weeds and their seeds before use, and also make the soil more fertile. The soil must contain turf and retain water.
How to prepare ground and pits for planting peppercorns?
In a situation where the earth contains a large amount of sand, such fertilizer should be applied to each square meter: a mixture of a bucket of sawdust from wood, peat, two buckets of humus and clay. If the soil is of the loamy type, then it is required to replace the fertilizer with half a bucket of sawdust, which has already been peeled, and a bucket of manure mixed with peat.
But sometimes only peat land is present on the site. In this case, add one bucket of turf and humus for each square meter of the plot. For clayey soil, fertilizers are replaced with rotted sawdust, coarse sand, humus and peat. Seven days before the process of planting peppers in open ground, water the bed chosen for the procedure with plenty of water.
If the seedlings were planted in plastic cups, then in the open air the pits for planting are made slightly deeper than the container. Sweet and bitter peppers should be grown in separate beds and far from each other to avoid cross-pollination. Sharp varieties need to be compressed so that the earth can be compacted. There should be a space of up to half a meter between the rows of plants, and between the bushes themselves in one row, twenty-five centimeters are enough. True, the exception is low or tall bushes. For them, other optimal indicators of the distances between rows and between plant specimens are selected.
How to plant peppers in open ground? Care rules
Before planting pepper sprouts on open beds, you need to water them in containers. You should also immediately spray the plants with chemicals against insect pests. Do not forget that the transplant is carried out together with an earthen lump, which cannot be damaged during the procedure. Initially, a little compost, already rotted, wood ash and half a teaspoon of superphosphate should be added to the hole. After that, the resulting fertilizer should be poured into each hole so that it is completely filled. Already when the moisture is absorbed into the soil, it is required to plant the pepper itself with an earthen clod from the previous container in the hole. It is not worth planting it very deeply. The best option is to the top root. The neck of the root system should not be covered with soil.
After the culture is planted in the hole made, it is required to hold the sprout with one hand, and water it with the other. Moisture should drain along the walls of the pit here. Only then the plant is covered with soil. In this case, it is necessary to create a seal by pressing the ground with your hands. The next step is to mulch the soil with peat. After completing all the above steps, you can close the sprouts with transparent film.
