It would seem that it could be simpler - I planted a set and got a large turnip onion. But this is not always the case … Either the onions do not grow, then the sevok goes into the arrow. Why is the planting material naughty? And the fact is that you need to please him before planting: store it correctly, and then thoroughly prepare it for moving to the beds
About the influence of temperature conditions on the appearance of an arrow
No one wants the onion sets to sprout before planting. The greens begin to draw strength from the miniature onion. And to prevent this phenomenon, some owners in the winter months contain planting material in very cool conditions. But just after such a wintering, the sets begin to go into the arrow. Therefore, it is better to store the planting material at room temperature - approximately + 18 ° C.
In order for the harvest to be a success, only the best specimens need to be selected for planting - large (as far as possible for seeding), tight, without long roots that break off during planting.
But what to do with those babies that have already begun to germinate or have not grown out in size? You do not need to throw them away, you can also benefit from them. For example - to plant to receive a green feather. To do this, they carry out a bridge landing - right next to each other.
Of course, we do not know anything about the storage conditions of onion sets, which were recently purchased for planting. Therefore, there is no need to rush to immediately start landing. It is better to buy it in advance and let it settle in room conditions for prevention.
Planting results will be better if the onions are warmed up two weeks before planting. This procedure will also help keep the onion sets from shooting. This requires a temperature of about + 40 ° C. In an apartment, you can put onions right in the basket next to the radiator or even on top of the heating radiator, but having laid an insulating layer before this so that the sevok does not fry at all. And in a country house he is left on the stove. The duration of the procedure is 8-10 hours.
Warm bath for planting material
Also, during storage, it is necessary to maintain optimum humidity. To prevent the onion from sprouting ahead of time, it must be thoroughly dried before storing it. At the same time, planting material must not be overdried. And this often happens when the set is kept in warm apartments in winter, where, as a rule, the air is very dry during the heated period. But such a flaw is easy to fix, and moisture in the planting material can be easily replenished by arranging a warm bath for the onion. For this, the sets are kept in water for several hours. Before that, it is advisable to cut off long tails at the sevka - to the neck. If you forget about this, after soaking, it will be more difficult to carry out such an operation with wet material.
Of course, you shouldn't put onions in the bathtub. For water procedures, a small basin or saucepan is quite suitable. There is enough water for the bow to rise slightly above the bottom and float freely. You can also bathe onions in a weak growth stimulant solution.
After bathing, the planting material is recommended to be disinfected. The easiest way is in potassium permanganate. Processing time is a quarter of an hour. Then the sowing is rinsed with warm water.
Place in the garden
It may be surprising that, after planting in the same place where an excellent crop was harvested last year, the next year it does not differ in the same excellent quality. It is necessary to follow the rules of crop rotation and not place planting immediately after the onion.
Also, it is not recommended to carry out planting after applying manure. But the onion turns out to be excellent after crops, for which the soil generously seasoned with organic matter is very suitable, for example, after cucumbers.
