Water is life, but if mishandled, it won't do your indoor flowers any good. How to recognize the signals of plants that it lacks moisture, or vice versa - its excess in the soil and watering will only harm your pet more? We will learn to solve these puzzles and provide first aid to plants when symptoms of drought or overflow appear
If the flower does not have enough water
First of all, flowers that have just settled in your house, having migrated from flower shops, begin to suffer from improper watering. These new pets often come to our homes in small pots with light transport soil. And therefore, there is a double blow to the roots of plants:
• firstly, such a soil mixture does not retain moisture well;
• secondly, in a small volume, the earth dries up faster.
If we add to these factors the dark color of the pot, which heats up very quickly in the sun, then the wilting and then yellowing of the leaves will not have to wait long. From such a pot, the flower must be transplanted as quickly as possible into a more suitable one, with a good nutritious substrate. And if this is not yet possible, then you will have to arrange special baths for your plants: put them in basins of water so that the earth is moistened through the holes at the bottom of the pot. If the reason for the wilting of the leaves is really a lack of moisture, then such water procedures will quickly restore turgor.
It is highly undesirable to use cold tap water for irrigation and "baths". You should make it a rule to stock up on water a day before watering and keep it in an open container. This is important for two reasons:
• during this time, chlorine evaporates from the liquid;
• water will be at room temperature.
When the plant is transfused
Often, the wilting of indoor plants is mistaken for a lack of moisture, while the reason is completely opposite - overflow. Moreover, if you do not take measures and change the tactics of caring for the pet, then after wilting, the development of fungal infections and decay of the roots will begin. A sign by which you can accurately recognize excess soil moisture is the appearance of soil mosquitoes near your flowers.
If in doubt whether the earth is moist enough and whether it is time to water the flower, it is better to let it dry even further. Overflows are especially dangerous in the cold season. After all, a plant is a living organism. Just as it is easy for a person to catch a cold, walking in the cold with wet feet, so it is easy for a plant to get sick when it finds itself on a cold windowsill in a wet pot. This quickly leads to hypothermia of the roots, and also creates favorable conditions for the development of pathogenic bacteria and soil acidification.
If an indoor flower is sick
The earth can sour not only from excess moisture, but also due to poor drainage. In the process of watering, the water should soak well the entire earthen lump and drain into the pan. Therefore, it is unacceptable to use containers without drainage holes. And when transplanting plants, experts recommend not neglecting the device of the drainage layer at the bottom of the pot. If, when transplanting a flower, it was found that the earth had soured, and the roots began to rot, they must be cleaned of the old soil mixture and the damaged parts must be cut off. Sections can be treated with crushed charcoal or fungicide solution.
The plant takes on a sluggish appearance not only with improper watering, but also during illness caused by excess moisture. Such a pet already needs not only moisture correction, but also a full-fledged treatment. Lovers of indoor floriculture should be warned against using fertilizers in such cases. We do not start going to the gym when we are knocked down by an illness. So the flowers during this period first of all need medicines. Fungicides deal with fungal infections. Biologically active drugs can be applied along with irrigation.
