What do you know about dry watering? The name itself seems to contain a contradiction, but when you learn more about this agricultural technique, it becomes clear that this technique works no worse than moistening the soil. This becomes especially relevant when it is not possible to water the beds with water at the next visit to the summer cottage. So what are we talking about - about such a seemingly common process as loosening the soil. But it also needs to be done wisely
Without loosening - no way
So, let's see what benefits the plant brings to loosening the beds? After all, the implementation of this procedure not only clears the area of weeds. This technique primarily helps to reduce the loss of moisture, as well as reduce the heating of the earth on a hot day. During loosening, those channels in the soil are destroyed through which water can rise to the surface and evaporate. In addition, the looser structure does not allow the roots to "suffocate" - this facilitates the supply of oxygen and improves the supply of carbon dioxide.
About the rules of loosening
After watering and heavy rainfall, the soil becomes denser, and this interferes with the development and nutrition of the roots. But do not pick up the instrument immediately after the rain. It is better to start loosening when the weather is dry outside. And the soil should not stick to the tool. On average, loosening is carried out every two to three weeks.
In the process of loosening, you do not need to turn over whole lumps of soil. This is not digging the soil, but a completely different type of plant care. It is enough to cut the top layer of the earth, at the same time cutting off the roots of the weed and clearing the beds from it.
The best tools for this operation are a hoe or hoe, or a finger ripper. In some cases, a cultivator plow or small harrow will work - it depends on both the area and the crops on the site. For example, a rake or a small harrow can break up the soil crust until the seeds have sprung up or loosen the soil after still small shoots. The finger ripper will allow for deeper processing where cucumbers with zucchini have already grown. With the help of a hoe, you can loosen the earth and carry out hilling on potato plantings.
In order for the effect of loosening to last longer, after it you need to mulch the beds. By the way, tedious loosening can be avoided if you constantly pay attention to measures to improve the qualitative composition of the soil, followed by mulching with non-woven materials that are capable of passing water. To do this, organic matter is regularly applied to the site, the heavy structure is loosened with sand, sawdust with nitrogen fertilizers is added.
Where is deeper, and where is smaller?
It is also important to know to what depth the soil is loosened. It depends on the germination of seeds and the depth of the root system. Planting onions is loosened even before the emergence of shoots, as well as on crops of carrots. Then the schedule of the procedure should become weekly, to a depth of about 3-4 cm. The garlic is also loosened by 3 cm, but once every two weeks.
The beds with cucumbers are loosened in the aisles to a depth of 4-8 cm. Deeper loosening is carried out before watering. In this case, you need to work carefully so as not to damage the root system, which is located close to the surface.
Loosening, transferred to open ground, tomato seedlings is done after making sure that it has taken root well in a new place. The first time the instrument is immersed no deeper than 8 cm. Then work is performed every 2-3 weeks to a depth of about 10-12 cm.
Peppers, unlike tomatoes, are loosened only after the second watering. Regular procedures are carried out as the soil is compacted. Depth - from 5 to 10 cm. For early varieties, this can be done four times, later, two loosening is enough.
More often than others, you need to loosen the cabbage. She needs it every 5-6 days. In addition to loosening it, like a potato, it needs hilling.
