Aster
The flower got its name because of the pointed petals that resemble rays of light emanating from the stars. Indeed, in Latin "Aster" means "Star".
Asters are annual and perennial. I really like these flowers, so I plant a separate bed with different varieties of annual asters. In addition to them, bushes and small undersized thickets of perennial asters grow on my site.
Any perennial is good in that it does not require close attention and care, disinterestedly giving its beauty to people. Asters are no exception. These are very unpretentious flowers. But in order for them to please the gardener all season, some points must be taken into account. Asters calmly tolerate shaded areas, but for autumn varieties that bloom until frost, it is better to choose a sunny area.
Not too demanding on the soil, they still prefer fertile loams, dug to the depth of a shovel bayonet. For asters, spring flooding is contraindicated, the soil must be permeable, well-drained. On hot days they need watering. They will be grateful for organic and mineral fertilizing, periodic loosening of the soil.
Asters should not be left in one place for more than five years. Their stem becomes more like a tree trunk, the inflorescences become smaller. You can transplant to another place by dividing the bushes.
Carnation
Some associate the name of the flower with the mythological Zeus, translating the word "carnation" as "divine flower", others consider the smell of the flower similar to the smell of the spice "carnation" (dried flower buds of a clove tree, plucked before their opening), which supposedly served as the name.
A carnation cannot be confused with any other flower. Its calyx, surrounded by bracts, supports five petals. Petals are solid, or have fringes or denticles along the edge. Terry varieties of carnation have more than five petals. The color of the petals is pure white, pink, various shades of red, yellow, lavender, combining two colors. The newly developed remontant varieties (which can bloom many times during one growing season) varieties of carnations have replenished the palette of petals with purple, green and orange colors.
Conquers the courage of wild carnations, desperately clinging to the steep rocks, on which the presence of soil is almost not felt. With their dim, touchingly delicate carved flowers, they soften the grayness and power of the rocky heaps. From its mountain sisters, the carnation has adopted a love for the sun, therefore it prefers open or slightly shaded places. For the same reasons, she does not like stagnant water, waterlogging. Prefers fertile non-acidic loams.
You can decorate an alpine slide with carnation bushes, build a spectacular border. They will diversify the flower garden, will be able to replace a special grass lawn. Carnations look good alone and with other flowers.
Numerous seeds are poured onto the ground from the opened cylindrical single-celled capsule, extending the life of the carnation for many years in the same place of the summer cottage. The branching roots of the plant also contribute to this.
Different varieties of carnations cross very easily with each other. Artificial hybridization (crossing) was first carried out by man on carnations.
