Those who do not like lush greenery too much can have a daylily and irises in their summer cottage. Their pointed, strict leaves discipline, at the same time giving the opportunity to relax in the country, and not work hard from dawn to dusk, caring for the flower garden. Day-lily

Having landed him once, there is no need to worry about his future. He himself will pave the way along your site, choosing suitable conditions for himself. Despite the short life span of each flower (it lives one day, rarely two or three days), the daylily will delight you throughout the summer season. Indefatigable flower growers have enriched its natural yellow and orange colors with white, red, pink, purple and other colors. Often one flower is painted with several colors at once.

Its roots do not need to be dug up, dried, or looked for a suitable storage place in winter, like dahlias and gladioli. He will calmly overwinter at his place of birth and for ten years will not require you to transplant to a new place of residence. Having a powerful root system, the daylily leaves no chance for weeds who want to keep him company. Thus, it saves you precious minutes and hours in the country, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your vacation, and not spend time in an endless fight against weeds.

Of course, if it is not fed for all ten years, the daylily will degenerate. Its flowers become smaller, the leaves lose their width, height and power. Top dressing must be done carefully to prevent fertilizer from getting on the leaves and flowers of the daylily. For the winter, the roots must be covered with a layer of mulch to help them survive the winter frosts, and in the spring the mulch will feed the plant itself.

The daylily can withstand drought, but it is better not to take matters to the extreme and water the plant at least occasionally during dry season. Its leaves and flowers will organically fit into the design of the reservoir, if there is one on your site.

Irises

Having planted unpretentious irises on your site, you have the opportunity to confirm or refute the assertion of some researchers that the aroma of iris flowers relieves stress and fatigue, and has a beneficial effect on the entire body. Although to highlight the beneficial effect of the smell of iris, it seems problematic to separate it from other dacha factors that improve the condition of the body. Personally, my body transforms when the wheels of our car drive onto a dirt road framed by a fragrant forest, although there are still ten kilometers to the village, which is not so easy to overcome in muddy roads.

But I digress from the main topic. The flower got its name due to the variety of colors and shapes. The Greek physician Hippocrates, who lived in the 4th century BC, compared it with a multicolored rainbow and gave the name "iris", which in Greek means "rainbow". In peasant Russia, the flower was called "kasatik", since analogies were drawn with more mundane things: its sharp leaves resembled a tool of labor - a scythe.

Regardless of the variety, and there are a great many of them, irises love moisture. They will approve if you plant them close to a body of water. They also love the sun and can enjoy it all day long, in turn delighting you with an abundance of flowers.

But irises are not friendly with the wind and prefer to hide from it behind other plants.

Any soil is suitable for them. But, if loams are good on their own, then the sandy soil should be periodically fed with small portions of fertilizers. It is better to dilute clay soil by adding sand to it. Neutralize increased acidity with lime.
