Types of fences for beds

Half of the gardeners and gardeners have already made such neat decorative fences for the beds. The other half of summer residents only dream of them. We decided to collect here types of "bed" fences that can flaunt in your garden. Perhaps among them you will find the most convenient and acceptable material for fencing your garden

Why do we need garden fences?

So why, in our opinion, is it still worthwhile to devote time, some material resources to erect fences for the beds? The fact that they carry the beauty and neatness of the garden, its decorativeness is one thing. But are there any practical benefits in them? In fact, of course there is.

First. Garden fencing reduces weed area. Less weeds means less time weeding. If the sides of the fence are also well buried in the soil, then outside the weeds will make their way into the garden less less.

The second plus is that the beds will not crumble over time, their shape will not be disturbed. This will be especially appreciated by gardeners working on sandy, loose, sandy loam soils.

Third. Every gardener knows that there are different types of beds and their layers. The so-called warm bed is covered with layers. And it is much more convenient to do this if the garden has a fence. In addition, arcs are conveniently attached to the sides of the fence to hold and stretch the greenhouse film.

That is, we are sure that the fence for each garden bed has undeniable advantages. The types of fences differ from each other in the materials from which they are erected. And here the gardener needs to decide which of them will seem more practical, more convenient to him.

Slate garden fencing

Once upon a time, just such a material edged many Soviet and post-Soviet dachas. Plus, such material (it can be flat, wavy) for fencing the beds had one thing - its availability and cheapness. In addition, it was always possible to use the old slate removed from the country roof on the beds in order to replace it with a new one.

But the disadvantages of such a fence are much more than advantages. First, slate is fragile. Especially when it is reused. Secondly, today there is a lot of talk about the fact that slate, as well as its sub-variant - asbestos sheets, are not entirely environmentally friendly and release into the soil, in close contact with it, not the most useful substances. Therefore, it is better to look for another material for fences "from the detachment of roofing".

Wooden fences

Any kind of wood can be used here - boards, beams, slats, slabs, lining, picket fences and others. Among the advantages of such a fence is the availability of a tree. There are more expensive options, such as rail and lining, there are cheaper options, such as slabs, boards and second-hand timber. Another plus is that wood is an environmentally friendly natural material and fits perfectly into the landscape of a suburban area. There is also a practical plus - the sides made of wood (for example, from sawn timber) can be made wide and used, for example, as a seat when processing beds or as a stand for additional pots with plants, with seedlings.

Of the minuses of wooden fences - they are short-lived, prone to darkening, swelling in the rain and water jets from a hose, and rotting. However, these moments can be smoothed out by treating the fence with special impregnating materials that protect the wood from the growth of bacteria, decay, and mold on it. To preserve its decorative effect and appearance, the fence can be varnished in 2-3 layers.

Metal fencing

In this case, it is better to use initially galvanized steel so that non-galvanized iron does not have to be covered with a layer of paint every year. Also, if you decide to stay on a metal fence, it is better to take sheets with a polymer coating. It will protect the metal from excessive heating, and hence the soil that it protects from overheating.

The disadvantage is the high cost of such material. But if I spent it once, then I put the fences for many years. Moreover, the view in the garden or in the garden will be very presentable.

Fences made of stone and concrete

You rarely find such types of fences in an average summer cottage. Most often, landscape designers work with such materials. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, laborious. But for centuries! This is one thing. The second is very impressive and sophisticated.

Curb tape fencing

Recently, a very common version of edging material for the garden. Usually used for flower beds. But now the gardeners have noticed such a "tape" and are increasingly using it to fence the beds.

From the pros - it is easy to install it with your own hands, without resorting to the services of specialists. Such a tape will last a long time. Since it is made of heat-resistant plastic, there will be no cracks on it during operation, and it will not unnecessarily heat the soil, and the appearance, the brightness of the shade will delight for a long time with its appearance.

Of the minuses - the high cost of the tape. If it is of high quality. A low-quality border tape, although it is cheap, will not last long.
