Even in a summer cottage of six acres, you can take a small corner of the space for medicinal herbs. This will save you from walking through the fields and forest edges, where ticks lie in wait in early summer, and in the midst of the heat the sun beats mercilessly and snakes bask on the paths. On your site, you are relatively safe.

It is possible not to allocate special beds for medicinal herbs, but to frame vegetable beds with them, or alternate seedlings of vegetables and herbs. Thus, you will not only acquire your own pharmacy, but also give your garden a unique and beautiful view.

Seeds and seedlings of medicinal herbs

Seeds or seedlings of medicinal herbs can be bought in specialized stores, collected in the fields and forest edges, or, perhaps, without a special invitation, they have already settled on your site, carried by the wind, hardworking insects, birds and other representatives of the living world.. It remains only to be attentive to weeds growing on your land, so as not to pull out medicinal ones from the ground along with harmful ones.

In principle, there are no plants in nature that are useless for humans. For millions of years she worked, selecting the best specimens so that a person did not know the need and could resist diseases. Plants-healers grow in abundance in the garden without our participation and labor costs with sweat on the face. But we ruthlessly destroy them, spending a lot of time and energy in order to grow some overseas miracle on the liberated territory, from which there is not much benefit, only boasting and vanity.

an old friend is better than two new ones

We rush for miracles to distant lands, not noticing and trampling home-grown miracles, literally lying at our feet. Plantain and coltsfoot, burdock and wormwood, yarrow and chamomile, willow tea and St. John's wort, lily of the valley and dandelion, motherwort and nettle, primrose and lungwort …

Before going to the village or to the dacha, we will definitely visit the pharmacy and stock up on pills, liquids, bandages and adhesive plaster, leaving a tidy sum to the pharmaceutical industry. Why do we do this when nature has already prepared everything we need. Instead of greenery and iodine, plantain spreads its generous and kind leaves right by the porch, and calendula blooms on the flowerbed. Rub the place of the mosquito bite with a leaf of calendula, and the itching caused by the yeast injected by the mosquito during the bite disappears.

And we are also bringing with us tea leaves, Indian or Ceylon, the prices of which have been getting a decent price lately, although the quality is getting worse every year. We do this by inertia. We have completely forgotten our village roots, have become helpless city dwellers. But tea brewed with young currant leaves is much smelly and healthier. And St. John's wort, oregano, linden blossom are the drink of the gods.

Careless gardener

I have fifteen acres of land in my village, on which I periodically make discoveries. The previous owners, having bought a more well-kept plot in the same village, dragged out for three years with the sale of the old one. During this time, the garden was spontaneously sown by the forces of nature. Since I am an absolutely urban person, not accustomed to gardening work, and I visit the village only on weekends, my land presents me with many amazing gifts.

So by chance I discovered among my unkempt flower garden delicate and fragrant flowers of St. John's wort, glad that my negligence made me such a wonderful gift. I have a primrose and a surprisingly multi-colored lungwort. A friendly family of lilies of the valley is located under a powerful birch.

In early summer, bright orange lights "light up" among the grass. In July-August, yarrow, yellow and white chamomile, and willow-herb bloom.

Nettles grew wildly along the fence. In the spring, when the first plantings are just beginning to emerge in the garden, nettle greens decorate and enrich cabbage soup and salads. The nettle is followed by young dandelion leaves, delicate spring feathers of wild onions, sorrel. We add fresh country eggs and sour cream bought from a neighbor, and an appetizing, vitamin lunch is ready.
