Cyclamen purple sometimes also called dryak, alpine violet, European cyclamen and blushing cyclamen. In Latin, the name of this plant sounds like this: Cyclamen purpurascens. Cyclamen purpurea is one of the plants in the primroses family.

Cyclamen purple for cultivation prefers a partial shade light regime, and throughout the summer period, watering should be abundant. At the same time, air humidity should be kept at an average level. The life form of this plant is a corm plant. It should be noted that the juice of cyclamen purple is poisonous and can irritate the skin if it gets on the skin.

The plant is recommended to grow on light windows: if purple cyclamen is grown on southern windows, then they will need shading. In addition, the plant can often be found in general premises: in offices and halls. Also, cyclamen purple is also grown in winter gardens and greenhouses.

It is noteworthy that most often the plants are grown as disposable: after the plant has faded, it is replaced with a new one. Nevertheless, if you provide the purple cyclamen with proper care, the plant will be able to develop for twenty to twenty-five years.

The maximum size of this culture will be approximately twenty to thirty centimeters.

Description of the features of the care of cyclamen purple

The plant should be transplanted about once every two to four years: for transplanting, it is recommended to choose shallow dishes, which should be quite wide. It is noteworthy that young plants and seedlings of tubers should not be completely buried in the soil, while those plants that have reached the age of two years should protrude above the soil surface by about one third of the tuber. As for the land mixture, you will need to take three parts of leafy land, as well as one part each of sand, peat and humus. The acidity of such a soil should remain slightly acidic.

It should be noted that stagnant water in the soil can have an extremely negative effect on the development of this plant. In order for the flowering of cyclamen purple to last as long as possible, the temperature regime should not exceed fifteen degrees. If the soil is excessively moistened, then the tuber may rot: in this case, the plant can no longer be saved.

Throughout the entire period of active growth of cyclamen purple, it is recommended to plant the plant on the western or eastern window. In the case when the plant is grown on the south window, it needs shading, and if the plant grows on the north window, then additional lighting will be required. The optimum temperature during this period should be approximately fifteen to twenty-two degrees. Watering at this time should be done regularly, but there should be no waterlogging or excessive drying of the soil.

Cyclamen purple will need feeding with fertilizers, which are intended for flowering indoor plants. This should be done about two to three times a month.

During the dormant period, daylight hours should last about fourteen to sixteen hours. Additional lighting is required during this period. The optimum growing temperature should be about twelve to fourteen degrees Celsius. Watering and humidity should be kept at a moderate level. The dormant period begins in the month of October and lasts until February. It is worth noting that throughout this period of time the plant retains its leaves.
