Scabiosa - a light-loving, flowering perennial from the Vorsyankovye family. Other names are widow or scabiosa.
Description
The Breech is an amazingly beautiful plant with incredibly showy flowers. The bases of the stems of this plant are woody, and the stems themselves can be either simple or branched. They are erect and very sturdy and range in height from ten to one hundred centimeters.
The opposite leaves of the cowshed can be either whole or pinnately dissected, pinnately separate or toothed-lobed.
The flowers of the cowshed gather in very plump capitate inflorescences, and you can admire the flowering of this handsome man from July until the onset of October.
Currently, there are about one hundred and twenty species of cowshed, and each of these species is attractive and interesting in its own way.
Where grows
The scabbard grows mainly in the Mediterranean and West Asian expanses, in addition, it can be found in East Asia, Northern Eurasia or Africa.
Usage
The scabbard is very widely used in decorative floriculture - the Caucasian scabbard is especially beautiful and in demand in this regard. This plant looks great in group plantings, but it will feel no worse in mixborders or in beddings. And the best neighbors for the cowshed will be undersized irises, peonies and hosts. Also for these purposes, yarrow ptarmica and daylilies are perfect. The undoubted advantage of this handsome man is his ability to grow beautifully in the same place for up to five years in a row, because this ability allows gardeners to create amazingly beautiful permanent long-term flower beds!
It is quite permissible to use a cowshed in a cut - in water in the form of a bouquet, it can stand from five to seven days!
And in ancient times, the juice of the leaves and roots of some varieties of barrow was actively used as a life-saving remedy for scabies. By the way, the name of the plant comes from this very word - "scabies" is translated as "scabies"!
Growing and caring
It is recommended to plant the breech plant in areas with humus-rich light fertile soils. And lovers of the Caucasian cowshed will not hurt to know that it is extremely intolerant of wet soils. And ideally, this plant needs to be provided with a sunny location!
The cowshed is characterized by fairly high winter hardiness (but light shelter in winter still does not hurt - dry leaves are quite suitable for these purposes) and drought resistance. However, with moderate watering in combination with periodic fertilizing with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, the color of the flowers of this amazing plant becomes noticeably brighter. And in order to maximize the flowering time of the barrow, it is necessary to eliminate the fading inflorescences in a timely manner.
The cowshed is propagated mainly by sowing seeds - they are sown in greenhouses with the onset of May, and already in mid-May they are carefully moved into the ground. Annual plants begin to bloom already after three months from the moment of sowing the seeds, and their flowering continues until late autumn. But perennials, in the case of seed reproduction, will delight with their magnificent flowering only in the second or even in the third year. That is why many gardeners prefer to propagate them by dividing the bushes - they begin to carry out it in early spring, before the plants start growing. With regard to the frequency of planting, then on one square meter of area usually placed from sixteen to twenty annuals or nine to ten perennials.
