Description of the whole-leaf snakehead

The whole-leaved snakehead is a perennial plant endowed with more or less woody stems. Such stems will be branched and spread out, they are covered with a grayish-brown peeling bark. The height of such a crust will be about fifteen to sixty centimeters. The leaves of this plant are ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate. The flowers of the whole-leaved snakehead are in false whorls of three, they form a dense inflorescence, about two to five centimeters long, and their width is two and a half centimeters. The calyx of the plant is painted in dirty purple tones, it is almost two-lipped, and its length is fifteen to eighteen millimeters.

The middle tooth of the upper lip of this plant can be either almost round or broadly obovate, and at the apex it is spinous. It is noteworthy that the middle tooth will be two to three times wider than the lanceolate and pointed lateral teeth, and its length is almost equal to the teeth of the lower lip. All the teeth of the calyx are endowed with sharply protruding transverse anastomoses. The corolla of the plant outside and inside at the very base of the lip will be shortly pubescent, while the upper lip is incised by one third into semicircular lobes, and the lower lip is one and a half times longer than the upper one. The upper lip is endowed with a kidney-shaped middle lobe.

The flowering of the whole-leaved snakehead falls on the period from June to July. Under natural conditions, the plant is found in Altai in Western Siberia, as well as in the following regions of Central Asia: in the Syrdarya, Balkhash, Tien Shan and Pamir-Aleisky regions. For growth, the plant prefers talus and rocky slopes up to the mountain belt.

Description of the medicinal properties of the whole-leaf snakehead

The whole-leaved snakehead is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. The concept of grass includes flowers, leaves and stems of this plant. The presence of such valuable healing properties of this plant can be explained by the content of ascorbic acid in its composition.

As for traditional medicine, here the infusion and decoction of the herb of this plant has been widely used as a sedative. As for the tincture based on the whole-leaf snakehead, it was experimentally proved that it is endowed with a hypotensive effect.
